Strong display ensures a draw against Saddlers
25 July 2005
Tamworth's pre season campaign continued in good stead with another excellent display against league opposition at the Lamb.
Paul Merson's side, led by the manager himself were no real threat to an organised and confident Lambs side who despite going down to a 21st minute goal, earned themselves a draw thanks to a Matt Redmile header just before the break.
Target man Julian Alsop was a constant threat to the Walsall back line and coupled with some good build up play from the whole Tamworth side chances were forthcoming, although the finish was sometimes lacking.
John Harkness opened the scoring after a defensive mix up alowed him to nod home from close range when the ball bounced free in the area but efforts from Storer, Hollis, Alsop, Ward, Whitman and Heggs all saw Tamworth come close throughout the game.
Matt Redmile's equaliser was just reward for the Lambs persistance and although seven second half Lambs substitutions disrupted the flow somewhat the same determination and effort could be seen in all the players used - including former Lamb Michael Crawford and no.2 goal keeping coach Mark Gayle who came on for an injured Bacherini on the hour mark.
Bacherini* (Gayle 58), Turner (Cooper 81), Redmile, Brown, Stamps, Hollis (Douglas 75), Ward (Heggs* 57), Storer, McAuley (Crawford* HT), Whitman (Jackson* HT), Alsop (Taylor HT)
