Second half Rawle strike gives Lambs 3 points
22 January 2005
Loan signing Mark Rawle's 48th minute winner was enough to secure the points for Tamworth. Rawle collected the ball in the centre of the penalty area and struck a right-foot shot into the bottom corner after good work by Bob Taylor.
Mark Cooper had almost opened the scoring in the first half with a 30-yard lob which beat goalkeeper Paul Crichton but went just wide. Sekani Simpson’s run set up Rawle later in the half, but the Oxford United striker screwed his shot wide.
Accrington’s Lee McEvilly was unlucky not to equalise when his 67th-minute volley saved by Chris Neal at full stretch and the Stanley team got a roasting off manager John Coleman who was not impressed with his full time side’s inability to beat the part time Lambs twice this season.
Tamworth produced a workman-like determined performance and Cooper was delighted with the result. “We all pulled together and when we do that we know we are as good as the rest. Dave Bampton did well out of position in defence and I have a dilemma now as Dave Robinson and Adie Smith are both available for selection again.”
