Score draw on return of Law

FT: Barwell 1    1 Tamworth

16 July 2011

One time Barwell boss Marcus Law returned to one of his most successful previous employers and his new Tamworth side, now resembling more of a recognisable team than a collection of new and old players to the Lambs fans, had to settle for a draw.
Barwell in their traditional yellow and green featured two ex-Lambs in Scott Rickards and Rikki Bains and the Lambs, once again, looked the business in the new red strip and black shorts while Scott Barrow watched from the stands, nursing a groin strain.

Obviously goal-hungry Christie had the ball in the net early on but the strike from Sharrif's right wing cross was ruled out.
Christie then saw his shot inside the penalty area charged down and pushed around the post by the home keeper and as rain poured down from the heavens in the latter stages of the first period, the same player had a close range effort smothered out.
Gudyer hit a quick thinking half volley just wide of the right hand upright in the latter stages of the half but there was no surprise that it ended goalless.

HT: Barwell 0    0 Tamworth

Barwell thought they had taken the lead with a scrambled far post finish soon after the restart but had it ruled out in a similar fashion to Christie's at the start of the first half and the home side escaped punishement for not clearing their lines on 52 when Christie found the ball at his feet, 8 yards out but the keeper saved and cleared the danger.
Sharrif flashed a low shot wide of the far post a few minutes later and Duane Courtney fed Christie with a good flaoted ball straight to his feet, but the forward miscontrolled it and the chance was lost.
Habergham saw a good attempt go wide with 20 to go and two more chances fell for Christie before he eventually hit the back of the net in spectacular style, overhead kicking home from close range to give The Lambs the lead.
However, the lead was short lived as almost direct from the restart a disastrous mix up at the back allowed Nigel Julien to slot home a quick thought equaliser.
