Rodman secures a point with last minute penalty
05 October 2010
Gary Mills' Lambs returned to The Lamb to face Barrow, themselves without goal in four games, on the back of three defeats and with Sheridan out through injury, but Oakes and MacKenzie recovered sufficiently to take a place on the bench with an otherwise unchanged starting eleven.
Tamworth got the game underway kicking towards the Castle End and won a freekick on the edge of the area on which Scott Barrow lined up with Smith and Thomas but the rehearsed move didn't come off and gave Pearson his first touch in goal.
Perry got onto the end of a long ball into the box on 4 but Pearson came out to meet him and Perry was unable to lift the ball over the keeper.
Wylde brought down Walker on the left for a Barrow freekick and a timely tackle by Smith denied the visitors a shot on goal which brought shouts for a penalty from the travelling faithful.
Tamworth were enjoying more of the forward play but not able to get a final ball to count but on 13 Wylde put through his own net trying to block a cross from the left by Owen. (0-1, 13 mins)
Marshall was penalised for a sliding tackle on Walker by the left touchline where he appeared to win the ball cleanly but nothing came of it and then Tamworth pushed forward for a few minutes.
Rodman pulled one back with a fierce strike from the right of the box following a cool flick into his path from Tait. (1-1, 19 mins)
Atkins pulled off a good stop off the close range shot of Walker on 23 and as Tamworth moved forward Rodman shot wide of the right hand post from 30 yards.
Thomas's cross from the left wing on 29 was met by the head of Rodman, and although the direction was good Pearson was well positioned and collected cleanly.
From a foul on Perry on the left on 33 Smith floated the freekick long to Lyttle in the far corner and when the ball was played back in, Lake-Gaskin's flick nearly went in at the near post but trickled wide with Pearson beaten.
Rutherford saw his shot blocked on the edge of the area on 35 and the same player then lifted a left wing cross come shot on the top of the goal from the return ball.
The visitors won a corner from the next move and Walker's head back into the danger area was cleared and Tamworth exerted some pressure of their own, winning a corner by the tea hut on 38 which came to nothing.
One minute added time was shown at the end of the half with no further incident.
Barrow started the second period kicking downhill and kept the ball for almost a minute before conceding a throw by the corner flag.
The visitors kept the ball largely in the Lambs half for the opening five or six minutes of the half with Atkins forced to clear back passes on a number of occasions.
A foul on Perry set up Scott Barrow with a freekick on 53 but Wylde's header looped into Pearson's hands and when Marshall backed into Owen on the right wing Sheridan put the deadball into the danger area and Lake-Gaskin cleared before Scott Barrow was brought tumbling to the floor by Spender on the left. Thomas tried to find the head of Perry but the chance was snuffed out by the keeper.
A similar ball from Scott Barrow in open play this time was collected by the keeper on 56 and a quickly taken freekick by Sheridan brought a corner for the visitors on 58 and although Hubery went down under a challenge from the ball into the box, there were only muted shouts for a penalty from the Barrow side. Walker then tried his luck with a half volley which went a few feet wide o the left hand post.
Perry was replaced by Bradley on 61 and on 62 Wainwright got the better of Lyttle to get the ball back to Walker who curled a shot into the grasp of the waiting Atkins.
A great ball from Thomas was pulled back into the path of Tait on 64 but he lifted his shot from the edge of the area over the bar after making space for himself to shape and shoot.
Owen played Walkker in for a run at goal on 65 and he found his route blocked by Marshall to win a corner and Tamworth broke but eth final ball was wayward from Bradley.
Wilkinson came on for Lyttle on 67 shortly after Darren Sheridan had received a booking and then Smith unleashed a right footed shot from 25 yards which curled agonizingly over the bar.
The Bluebirds won a corner which Scott Barrow headed away from under the bar by the near post and then on 73 a slip by Smith in the middle of the park allowed Owen to thread the ball through for Walker to run on to, and Wylde pulled him down as they tussled in the box winning the visitors a penalty and a booking for the Lambs defender.
Walker stepped up to the spot and fired down the middle to restore his side's lead (1-2, 75 mins)
Thomas won a corner in the first move from the kick off but there was no way through the Barrow defence from the flag kick.
Gary Mills played his final card with ten to go, bringing Oakes in for Smith and on 82 Marshall guided a header from a deep freekick past the far post.
Hubert fell under a tackle by Barrow but the referee waved play on until Rutherford was brought down a bit further towards goal and Oakes cleared Sheridan's freekick.
Thomas lofted a cross into the area on 86 but there was no one able to put the ball away and then foul in the centre circle by Sheridan brought shouts for a second booking from the Shed, but he received just a telling off by the referee and play continued and Oakes put the ball into the box and Jones handballed it to set up Rodman with a penalty kick which he despatched low to the right, sending the keeper the wrong way. (2-2, 90 mins)
Three minutes added time was shown at the end of the game and although Lake-Gaskin got the ball to his feet on 92 he lifted it high over the bar from 18 yards.
