Riverside goals for The Lambs
17 July 2007
Tamworth recorded their second win of the pre-season campaign with another well worked display at former Lamb Lee Wilson's Northern Counties East side Gedling.
As at Stamford Lambs boss Gary Mills fielded almost a side a half, and once again although the faces changed, the style of play and eventualy outcome was the same in both periods.
The first 45 minutes proved to be the most barren of the two with just two goals coming Tamworth's way. With Carl Heggs and Anthony Robinson upfront the opening goal came from an unusual source via Gerry Taggart after 8 minutes who crept to the edge of the area and slammed home the lose ball.
Heggs' persistance and Robinson's determination almost paid off but they were caught out by the offside flag a number of times until a flowing move from defence involving Des Lyttle, Adie Smith and ultimately Robinson left the striker with a very easy chance, unmarked 12 yards out to make it 2-0.
In the second half, Heggs was partnered by Tony Thorpe and although Heggs went close it was Thorpe who made it 3-0 on 47, going clean through against the home 'keeper, and then 4-0 on 51, again taking the ball round the 'keeper from Heggs' flick on.
Dave Bampton left the field on 68 clutching his left knee following a crunching tackle and Chris Waldrum gave a great display on the left of midfield after coming on as sub.
Waldrum was unlucky not to get his name on the scoresheet on 87 but his shot fell kindly for Jake Sheridan who made no mistake from a few yards out and right at the death trialist Luke Edwards made it 6-0 taking it around the home keeper once more.
