Redmile runs the show as Lambs are victorious
11 December 2004
Lambs boss Mark Cooper could do nothing but praise his side for their hardworking victory against high-flying Carlisle United.
"We had a game plan and stuck to it. I felt we dealt comfortably with most of what they threw at us and showed that you don't necessarily need a £20,000+ a week budget to win games in this league. That was our best performance of the season so far and the team spirit is unbelievable, but i've told the lads not to get too carried away as we are still only a stones throw from the relegation battle. I can't single anyone out as they were all fantastic."
Cooper refused to comment whether he thought the Conference title had been decided with his sides result (as Barnet moved 13 points clear) but added,"We have to travel to Barnet next Saturday and Carlisle will be hoping we repeat today's performance there."
Matt Redmile headed home the winning goal after 68 minutes after Lee Colkin fired in an inch perect corner and despite a tense last 15 minutes, in which Magno Vieira missed a golden opportunity at the far post and was then denied by Ryan Price, the Lambs held on superbly.Tamworth had had just one real chance on goal in the entire 90 minutes although Whitman almost provided Bob Taylor with a spectacular overhead effort midway through the first half.
Karl Halwey had the first on target chance of the game on 44 minutes with a delightful right foot curler that Price pushed away superbly.
Mark Turner's and Marcus Ebdon's shooting boots let them down in the second half in a game all but deviod of on target goal mouth action but it was sheer grit, determination and team spirit that saw the Lambs emerge victorious at the end.
