Price the hero as Shrimpers denied play-off place.

FT: Tamworth 0    0 Morecambe

23 April 2005

Tamworth finished the season by extending their unbeaten run to 11 games at the expense of Morecambe’s play off hopes.
And it was now-departed ‘keeper Ryan Price who ensured that The Shrimps would be playing another season of Conference football in 2005-6 with a string of great saves in the second half.

Marcus Ebdon and Bob AndrewsTamworth started well and looked the better side in the first 45 minutes with Tris Whitman and Aaron Brown both going close while Dave Morrison should have done better with a loose ball but did not strike it cleanly just inside the area.
Wayne Curtis forced Price into two stops towards the end of the half as Morecambe started to come back into the game and a Marcus Ebdon / Dave Bampton mix up allowed Micheal Twiss to set up David Perkins with a glorious chance.
With the rest of the scores filtering through to the crowd, Morecambe realised they must win to keep their promotion dream alive, but neither Twiss nor Curtis could beat Price early on in the second period.
Morrison had another good chance for the Lambs and at the other end Matt Redmile cleared a Morecambe corner off the line.
Twiss again brought the best out of the Lambs' 'keeper as the pressure started to get greater but sub Danny Carlton, Kieran Walmsley and Garry Hunter could not get past Price who produced some awesome saves to deny them as he played his best game of the season.

News came through that a draw had not been enough for the visitors and the Morecambe players sank to their knees, but still got a standing ovation from the bumper crowd.

The Lambs did a lap of honour to a rousing send-off and after the game boss Mark Cooper said: “It must be heartbreaking for the Morecambe lads, but we set out not to give them anything. We wanted to continue our unbeaten run and I thought we more than matched them.”

Before and after the game Marcus Ebdon received ‘retirement’ gifts from chairman Bob Andrews and the Supporters' Club, while Tamworth and Morecambe fans alike enjoyed the hospitality in the clubhouse after the final whistle which lasted late into the evening.

2004-5 comes to a close
