Points shared at The Lamb

FT: Tamworth 1    1 Alfreton Town

09 March 2013

For the visit of Alfreton Town to The Lamb, Dale Belford made three changes to the side that had suffered defeat against Barrow a week previously. Richard Tait, Tommy Wright and Daren Byfield came into the starting line up while Daniel Lloyd and Kyle Perry both took a place on the bench, while Marcus Kelly was ruled out after failing a fitness test.
Tamworth got the game underway kicking towards the Castle End of the ground but in the second minute Tomlinson swept a shot at Breeden from 18 yards after Hessenthaler had missed his header in the box.
An apparent push on the box on Cunnington went unpunished on 4 and both sides tried to make forays forwards but were finding the final ball hard to come by as The Lambs new look formation with Tait and Courtney in midfield took a while to adjust.
Cunnington made a good run down the right to the by-line on 8 but was denied the cross and a freekick from Hessenthaler on 11 was headed well by Oji but was easy for Pickford to collect at his near post.
On 13 a ball from the left bounced into themiddle of the box and Soares tried to turn it over the line but he found Marshall, and more specifically the defenders chest, blocking the route.
As the 20 minute mark ticked over there was still little light between the two teams.
On 22 Soares sturck right footed on target but found Breeden in no mood to be beaten and he smothered the travelling shot with a dive to his right at the near post.
A similar shot from Soares on 25 was saved by Breeden again, and when the rebound found his teammate Brown the linesman's flag went straight up for offside.
A crunching tackle by Cunnington allowed the striker to advance towards the penalty area on 27 b ut he decided to go it alone when perhaps a through ball to Wright would have given an opening to his strike partner. However, the final shot cannoned back off the Town defenders and the chance was gone.
A minute before the half hour mark Soares got his name on the scoresheet following a quick break out of midfield by the visitors which allowed Boden  time to squad the ball from the right and Soares found space in the box to rifle his shot past Breeden inside the far post. (0-1, 29 mins)
Tait's tenacity won a corner on the right on 34 which was half cleared by Alfreton and when it came back into the box Marshall and Wright tried headers but neither could get past Pickford.
Kempson was forced from the field with a groin injury to the captain forced Nicky Law's hand on 39 and two minutes added time were shown at the end of the half which finished without further incident.

HT: Tamworth 0    1 Alfreton Town

Alfreton got the second hand underway and the Lambs went on the offensive with Marshall in uncharted waters early on and the ball at his feet.
A deep freekick from Hessenthaler then found the head of Wright in a crowded area but it flashed wide, and on 53 Cunnington lined up a freekick o the right of the box but it went straight into the wall.
When the ball ran free for Hessenthaler he struck low and found Pickford in good form to deny him.
At the other end a left sided cross aimed for Boden was cut out by the sliding challenge of Marshall under the bar and a left sided corner by the visitors was punched clear by Breeden for another flag kick on the right hand side.
On the hour, Soares clipped the outside of the post with a right footed drive from 20 yards out in a central position.
The Lambs got themselves back into the tie on 65 when Cunnington found space down the right and pulled the ball back for Byfield to forced theball home at the near post with Pickford unable to prevent it crossing the line (1-1, 65 mins)
Lloyd came on for Hessenthaler and gave The Lambs a more biting edge in the final third but it was Alfreton in the 81st minute who threatened and an attempted over headkick by substitute Franks went wide of the mark, but only by a few feet.
With 3 to go, former Lambs Dan Bradley lifted the ball into the box for Breeden to gather easily and released Lloyd who won a corner on the left for Tait to fire into the box but it went past everyone and Alfreton cleared the danger.
Four minutes added time was shown at the end of the game and Clayton got a header away in the box which struck the underside of Breeden's bar before being cleared.
