Moors beaten and 1st Round here we come

FT: Tamworth 4    1 Solihull Moors

26 October 2013

FA Cup 4th Qualifying Round fever hit The Lamb and with a £12,500 prize and a potential tie against League opposition on offer to the victors Tamworth and Solihull Moors locked horns for the first time in the competition.
Dale Belford selected himself on the bench amongst a side with no less than six changes from the starting XI that ran out against Luton, including debuts for youth loan signings David Morgan and Jordan Keane, while the only one of the five Moors ex-Lambs was in their starting line up - Matt Birley - who made 20 appearances and scored twice in the 2008-09 Conference North winning season under Gary Mills.
Solihull got proceedings underway kicking towards the Castle End, while The Lambs lined up with Richards and Chadwick up front but it was Peniket who was on hand to give The Lambs the lead on 5 minutes when he turned and stole a yard in the box to knock the ball right footed, past the keeper, and in off the right hand upright. (1-0, 5 mins)
A poor goal kick fell invitingly for Chadwick to strike from distance and his shot from 25 yards lifted just over the bar with Singh at full stretch.
Peniket then tried to double his tally but was leaning back when he struck from the right of the box and lifted the ball over the bar.
The ball dropped for Birley to strike at goal from 18 yards on 14 but, under pressure, he was way off target with his effort .
A corner was forthcoming for The Moors on 16 and it was fired into the six yard box, caused some problems and another was won which Birley latched onto but was unable to control, resulting in a goal kick.
A left sided cross come shot by Solihull defender Gough saw Belford at full stretch but not threatened too much.
At the away end on 25, Chadwick tried to get the better of the Moors defence but found Singh in no mood to be beaten, and the quick ball out from the keeper saw Belford's area under attack but Birley's shot was deflected out for a corner which came to nothing.
A long Capaldi throw from the left was headed behind for a Lambs corner on 28 which was cleared, but another was awarded when Chadwick looked to turn the ball home but it took a deflection for a left sided corner.
Morgan fired the ball in from the flag and Peniket connected with it at near post with a deft flick of the boot which allowed Chadwick to steal into the box and plant the ball home from six yards - a perfect way to celebrate his 31st birthday. (2-0, 31 mins)
Richards hit a shot from the edge of the area on 36 and Singh was forced to tip it over for a right sided flag kick which Capaldi curled into the box and Courtney went for the header, but it was cleared.
A freekick by Capaldi on 39 allowed birthday boy Chadwick to net his second of the afternoon with a diving header from close range and extend The Lambs grasp on the game and place in the 1st Round Proper. (3-0, 39 mins)
Courtney was forced to leave the field with injury just before the break being replaced by Richards-Everton and two minutes added time was show at the end of the half.

HT: Tamworth 3    0 Solihull Moors

Tamworth restarted proceedings and Moors manager Marcus Bignot made three changes, introducing Dominic Langdon back to The Lamb.
After a storming start to the second half, Richards-Everton made it four on 55 with a thumping header from a right sided corner (4-0, 55 mins) and it was almost five on 58 when Elford-Alliyu finished a flowing move down the left with a right footed shot over the bar from 12 yards.
A couple of cards were shown around the hour mark with English and Morgan both seeing their names taken by referee Mr. England.
Bogle pulled one back for Solihull on 65 with a deft header that flicked into the far right of the goal with Belford unable to get to it despite a full length dive (4-1, 65 mins)
A good run round the back of Langdon on 76 gave Capaldi a corner to fire in from the right and it was headed behind for another which was headed past the other post by a visiting defender but the dead ball lacked direction and Singh was able to restart play with a goal kick.
Moors substitute Wint placed a header from a right wing cross the wrong side of Belford's near post on 82.
Two minutes added time were shown and with it, Byfield came on to replace Richards before the full time whistle blew on a place in the next round.
