Mettam nets for a point

FT: Tamworth 1    1 Colwyn Bay

20 September 2014

Under the managership of Frank Sinclair the visitors looked to extend their unbeaten record to five games, while The Lambs were hoping for their first win in seven outings and Bay got the game underway attacking the Meadow Street End in the first half.
From a second minute corner, Tamworth were able to exert some pressure on the visitors and a foul on Jackson allowed the same player to strike a freekick but it went straight into the wall.
On 7 mins good work by Jackson saw the ball cut back for Taylor but keeper Ollerenshaw smothered at his feet at the second attempt.
But with 9 minutes gone Colwyn Bay took the lead when Moss' left wing cross was headed home by Hopley from 6 yards (0-1, 9,mins)
The Lambs were quickly back in it though as Mettam pounced and fired home a great strike from inside the box which gave the home fans something to cheer about. (1-1, 15 mins)
Although there was little goal mouth action until the 28th minute Tamworth enjoyed the majority of the game and visiting boss Sinclair was regularly on his feet shouting instructions from the main stand. Jackson appeared to be bundled over in the area on 29 but nothing was given and Trainer followed up with a long range drive that was easy enough for Ollerenshaw to take.
As the end of the first half drew into view, The Lambs continued to hold the upper hand although Ollerenshaw was not tested very often.
His defence were tested more often though and conceded a corner on the left on 42 which allowed Purdie’s side to push forward and Olapade was booked for a challenge on Daniels in front of the clubhouse on 43.
Jackson flicked the ball past the far post on a tight angle from the left of the area on 44 and Taylor forced a corner on 45.
Inside added time at the end of the first half Belshaw was called upon to deny Anoruo and Nooe’s shots before Williams headed wide of the right hand upright all in the same move.

HT: Tamworth 1    1 Colwyn Bay

The Lambs got the second half underway and on 48 Anorou pounced on a short backpass and shot strongly but was denied by Belshaw.
However as the ball ran clear, Vidal brought down Buckley to give Colwyn Bay a penalty.
Moss stepped up to take the spot kick and Belshaw blocked it to keep the scores level. Noone was booked for a late challenge on Daniels on 51 and Sinclair, who retained his position in the seats in the main stand, provided the fans around him with reason get involved in some friendly banter between themselves.
Jackson was booked on 59 for kicking the ball away and on 61 Bay had the ball in the net but Anoruo was quite rightly flagged offside for his involvement which saw him divert a low shot home from 12 yards out.
A right sided corner was awarded when Vidal worked his way into the box on 69 but when Adams received a blow to the head, the referee restarted play with a drop ball well away from the incident and instructed Bay to return the ball to Belshaw 80 yards down field.
After Simmonds came on for Jackson, the players took a well earned drinks break and there was a further stoppage when Anjos caught Vidal with a high boot as the Tamworth defender went for a low header outside the box. A left sided corner on 80 was headed onto the head of a visiting defender by Preston and from the other side the corner came in and Preston appeared to be pushed over but nothing was given.
Trainer hit a long range effort and Ollerenshaw palmed it away in the next move and Tamworth kept Bay on the rack and Adams unleashed a right footed volley but it was always going wide of the mark.
Amenku came on for his debut with three minutes remaining and in the first of four minutes stoppage time Rey struck just over the target.
A foul on Amenku allowed The Lambs a freekick in the left corner but there was no last minute winner for either side.
