Late goal gives United the win
02 August 2011
On a gloriously sunny evening Dale Belford and the members of the Tamworth Academy staff looked after the mainly young side that ran out against Redditch United at The Valley. With Marcus Law looking on from the main stand the Evostik Premier hosts went out to extend their run of eight out of eight friendly wins to nine out of nine.
Jones and Green combined to win an early corner for the home side which Francis headed away then on 7 minutes Green spun on a long throw and forced Collister into a good save at his near post.
A Lambs flag kick was forthcoming on 11 thanks to some persistent play from Gudger, Bottimer and Taylor but a foul on the keeper denied a clean header at goal for Wallen.
Taylor and Sleet combined down the left midway through the first half but the latter's cross was headed away strongly by Robinson.
Former Lambs youngster Luke Keen cut into the box on 29 but lifted his shot high over the target and on 35 Brown upended Reynolds and Bottimer curled his effort around the wall into the arms of Bedford.
On 43 Jones crossed from the left and Francis sliced his cleared a foot over his own bar, and the home winger floated a curling ball just over the bar from a good distance out on the left with Collister ready to guide it out of play if required in the final action of the half.
Taylor put in a strong run into the area on 50 but was denied a shot by a crowd of United defenders and Wallen turned to face goal but the ball was drifting away to his right and his shot went just wide of the mark a minute or two later.
On 61 Wallen nipped in between the last two defenders but was unable to direct his shot goalwards and won a corner which Bedford gathered at height.
Hickman flashed a header past the far post from a corner on 72 and Osbourne pushed a right sided shot past the same post within 60 seconds.
Collister slid the ball out of play off the toes off Osbourne for a corner as the home pressure continued but failed to produce the desired outcome as both hsides made a number of changes.
A shot from the left of the area from Clayton rattled the woodwork on 86 and Bedford gathered close to his post and a corner was won in the final couple of minutes of the game but Redditch cleared with a couple of hefty boots.
Clayton the struck the woodwork again as Tamworth broke forward via a right footed curling shot which hit the crossbar square on and rebounded out with Bedford a mere spectator.
But 30 seconds into added time Redditch's Blenkinsopp added another to his pre-season tally with an well taken opportunist strike from close range after the Lambs defence failed to clear a half chance ball into the area and Taylor parried his initial effort from a yard out. (0-1, 90 mins)
