Lambs win, but injury worry for Hinchcliffe

FT: Tamworth 1    0 Walsall

01 August 2007

Tamworth entertained League 1 Walsall, who featured a number of first team stars. Lambs boss Gary Mills experimented a little with the starting eleven that had played in previous friendlies and included a new face in Mario Pedro a Portuguese (also previously at Hednesford Town) midfielder on trial with the club.

After a quick start by both sides Alex Nicholls fired over the bar after 3 minutes.
But it was the Lambs who took the lead on 4 minutes when Kyle Storer completed a great move started on the left wing involving Luke Edwards and finished at the far post. 1-0
Storer’s freekick almost got converted at the far post a minute later but Dominic Langdon couldn’t control the chance.
Storer struck another freekick from 20 yards on 12 but Bossu was more than equal to the well struck dead ball.
Troy Deeney hit a left foot half volley just wide on 14 from a Walsall corner as both sides looked to play neat passing football without being too hard in the tackle.
Justin Jackson went down injured half way through the first period and couldn’t continue, so Matt Williams came on in his place as an out and out striker.
Langdon then made a good defensive block, cutting out a ball across the face of goal on 38 which may well have been converted by Reg Faria had the Lambs center back not got in the way.

HT: 1-0

Tamworth made 3 substitutions at half time and it Williams almost made it two nil just a couple of minutes in, but blasted high over the bar from 8 yards and a couple of minutes later he missed a gilt edged chance from even closer in at the far post.
Walsall won a free kick just outside the area on 51 but Ishmael Demontegnac fired high over Dave Clarke’s bar.
There were then loud shouts for a handball in the area on 59 from Pedro’s half volley, but the referee waved play on as the ball rolled wide of the mark while at the other end Mark Bradley headed wide at the far post.
Alex Nicholls latched onto a loose ball on 68 but struck his shot past the far post after good work from Deeney on the edge of the area.
With 10 minutes to go Adam Hinchcliffe had to be helped off the field and eventually taken to hospital by ambulance following a tackle that left him hobbling badly as the Lambs continued to the end a man short.
