Lambs v Saints

FT: Brackley Town 0    0 Tamworth

05 September 2017

The Lambs made the shortish journey to St James Park to take on high flying Brackley on their own turf after the frustrating away point at Humberside on Saturday.
Andy Morrell made two changes to the side that ran out against North Ferriby with Darryl Knights out and Louis Ezewele injured Callum Powell came in and Charlie Shaw made his debut.

Tamworth got the game underway in driving sweeping rain and exerted some early pressure in the home half.
Powell and then Verma had strikes at goal around the 4th and 5th minute – the first from Powell forced Lewis to parry his shot from the left and the second from Verma went just wide of the left hand post.
Ndlovu got his head onto a floated cross from the left on 6 but it skipped wide of the mark as Brackley pushed back against early Lams pressure.
Tamworth countered though and when Styche received the ball at his feet in the area his shot was well taken but rose over the bar.
Neither side could take control as the minutes ticked by but a deep freekick from Morley on 19 was headed behind at the far post by Verma.
Powell was causing a nuisance with his pace down the left and forced the Brackley midfield to pull him back on 24 giving Morley the dead ball but the home side headed it clear and broke forwards, until Upton got back and snuffed out the cross.
A driven shot from close range forced Rowley to spill the soaking wet ball and thankfully his defenders cleared it away.
At the other end Styche robbed the ball in midfield and curled it towards goal forcing Lewis to push it round the post for a corner, but from the deadball Styche was caught off side from Upton’s header.
Walker got a downward header on target from a right sided cross which Rowley smothered and the same player forced a corner on the left with a shot that cannoned of Burns.
Shaw was putting a shift in, in the centre of the park and did well to keep the ball off the more experience toes of the Brackley midfield a number of times.
On 35 a cross had to be headed behind for a Saints corner on the right which Burns headed away strongly. On 42 Shaw made a superb turn in the box to take it past his marker and set himself up with a shot at goal, unfortunately for the debutant it was closed down quickly and Brackley cleared.
Two minutes added time was shown at the end of the first half which ended without further incident.

HT: Brackley Town 0    0 Tamworth

Brackley got the game back underway and Tamworth started off at a canter pushing the ball forwards from the off but Brackley countered and when Lane fouled on the edge of the area it set up Lowe but his deadball strike went high over the target.
When the ball skipped through the Lambs midfield on 53 it was left to Lane to put in a last minute tackle to deny Brackley a shooting chance.
Styche was clattered on 55 and needed treatment, returning to the action shortly after.
And with each passing minute Shaw visibly grew in confidence, making intelligent passes in midfield with consummate ease.
Williams made headway into the right of the box on 65 and forced Rowley to parry a powerful right footed shot, his first save of the half.
Powell, who had run himself into the ground, was replaced on 69 by Taylor and he immediately made a nuisance of himself down the left hand side.
A low shot from Byrne on the edge of the area on 80 was deflected behind for a corner which he took himself and The Lambs defended strongly but conceded again and Burns headed it away.
Brackley continued to press but Rowley eventually got it back and it allowed The Lambs to build from the back again.
In the move after Styche was replaced by Reid, a deep dead ball was put behind for a flag kick on the right which Morley fired in but it was poor.
Four minutes added time was shown at the end of the half and a quick burst from the home side nearly saw the ball whizz past Rowley but thankfully, also the near post and the final whistle blew on a hard fought point.
