Lambs unable to force the win against ten men Alty
18 January 2011
After last Tuesday night's last minute come back win against Newport County, Des Lyttle made one change to the starting eleven welcoming Michael Wylde back after injury and his two new signings took places on the bench.
With Altrincham in 23rd place in the league and coming into the game on the back of an FA Trophy defeat to lower league opposition in Blyth Spartans they would undoubtedly be in no mood to give Tamworth an easy three points.
The Lambs kicked off proceedings towards the Castle End buut it was the visitors who had more of the play in the opening encounters.
The game started in a very scrappy manner with neither side able to do much past the half way lines of any worth however in their first real attack, Reeves stole in at the far post to head home a low header after Baynes cross from the right evaded everyone to give Alty the lead. (0-1, 7 mins)
Tamworth responded but Barrow's left wing cross was too strong ad went behind, and a deep cross from the opposite side by Tait was headed behind for The Lambs first corner on 12 which Wylde flicked on but it went over the bar.
Rodman was booked for a lunging tackle on Twiss inside the centre circle on 15 and after a few minutes of nothing much happening, Yussuf found space in the bo on the left and fired a shot wide of the near post.
There were appeals for a penalty after a tackle on Bradley on 20 but they mainly came from The Shed and although Yussuf got a shot away in the net move he was adjudged to have handled it in the build up.
Rodman won a freekick after being blocked by Reeves on the right of the box but Thomas' ball skipped through and out past the far post on 22.
A foul by Lawton on Thomas went unpunished with no card shown on the half way line on 23 but the freekick did allow Tamworth to push forward until Marshall's ball over the top went back to Coates.
Another freekick was won on 31 for a push 20 yards out and Rodman set himself up to curl it at the near post with a slight deflection taking it out for a corner but it was wasted.
Joseph fired a dead ball into the area from the left and although Sheridan cleared from Marshall's defensive header Altrincham won back possession and Joseph fired a cross at Atkins which he gathered.
A corner then came The Lambs way on 35 which went short to Tait but was ultimately cleared.
A blatant push on Thomas won a freekick on the left on 39 and Rodman sw his resulting shot blocked, as did Thomas with the return ball.
As half time approached a quick look at scores elsewhere showed that only one game had the opposition netting if a going goal behind, in all competitions - until Fleetwood equalised against Wimbledon.
On 44 Bradley sent in a fine cross but Yussuf was unable to reach it and the visitors cleared but the latter did forced Coates to gather a low shot on 45.
Beesley fired a right footed drive from the right of the box over the bar and two minutes added time was shown.
Lyttle sent his players back out very early for the second half having made two changes at half time, with strikers Perry and debutant Jason Bradley coming on for Yussuf and Sheridan and eventually the Altrincham players returned to the pitch and kicked off.
On 47 Rodman crossed from the right and Perry got a glancing header to the ball but it was collected easily by Coates from 8 yards.
Reeves stole in and fired a low shot into the near post and when Alcock launched the ball Joseph appeared to clash with Perry on the right wing earning the Altrincham player a straight red card.
After much deliberation and talking between the referee and various Alty players Densmore also received a booking and the visitors made a change. Meanwhile, back with MacKenzie, who had been waiting patiently, sent in a hopeful freekick and Barrow tried a shot but it was wildly off target.
Just past the hour Thomas made space to cross to the far post and Rodman's header was clawed around the woodwork by Coates for a corner but Perry's nod into the area went over Rodman and out for a goal kick.
A long throw fell to MacKenzie on 64 and his powerful shot was blocked a yard or so off the line and then Perry's header was saved by Coates in the next move as Tamworth tried to make their numbers count.
Daniel Bradley forged through the centre of the defence but curled his shot agonisingly wide and despite continued pressure Tamworth couldn't get a clean shot on target with Altrincham putting 9 men in the final third of the field.
Rodman was replaced by Kamara with just over 20 to go but it was Alty who won a freekick shortly after and Baynes unleashed a very powerful drive which Atkins took at the second attempt from 35 yards.
Thomas won a left sided corner on 73 but Marshall's header from deep on the other side of the area bounced out past the far post.
Finally, Tamworth got on the scoresheet on 79 when Tait's right wing cross was expertly and powerfully headed past Coatley by Perry from 6 yards to level the tie (1-1, 79 mins) - his tenth of the season.
Perry almost set Jason Bradley free in the area a minute later but covering Altrincham defenders prevented him shaping to shoot.
The Lambs now started to push forward more and Jason Bradley was unlucky not to connect cleanly with a left wing cross while Kamara did well to get the ball into the box but Coates caught at his near post.
A rare shot came for the visitors on 86 through sub Clee, but he was way off target with his hopeful effort from 30 yards.
The fourth official was getting ready to indicate 5 minutes added time as Jason Bradley saw his set up to shoot blocked and a foul on the left of the area allowed Tait to float the ball in but it went over everyone's heads.
Deep into added time, Wylde launched a throw in from the right but a foul in the area halted play, and when it looked like Jason Bradley would latch onto a bobbling ball in the area on 95 a push on the defender stopped play again, earning Marshall a booking.
