Lambs through to next round of GLS Cup

FT: Tamworth 3    1 Worcester City

25 January 2005

With Sky TV at the game (interviewing Trevor Francis) and ex-Lambs Darron Gee and Darren Grocutt in the crowd, Worcester took the lead after 29 minutes through a Leon Kelly header. But Tamworth struck back three times to set up a tie in the next round (date TBA) at Accrington Stanley who beat York 2-1 after extra time.

Set up one and scored oneThe Lambs' goals came via a great James Francis strike eight minutes before half time after good work from Adie Smith (pictured). And it was Adie Smith's right foot shot from the edge of the box five minutes later that gave Lambs the half time lead. The third came from Nick Smith who picked up Francis' crossfield pass and slotted home from close range on 47.

Manager Mark Cooper said after the game: "With a below strength side we did very well and I thought the lads played well. In previous cup games this season (B'ham Senior and Staffs Senior) we have got caught out and not played but that was not the case tonight. I gave Danny Douglas and Richard Munday a run-out and am undecided about whether to play Adie Smith in the centre of defence ahead of Dave Bampton as he (Bampton) did well again tonight and Adie looked comfortable in midfield."

Bob Taylor and Marcus Ebdon were both rested ahead of the trip to Woking on Saturday while Scott Stamps gets his scan results tomorrow (Weds) but should be fit. Mark Rawle played a trial game for Rushden and Diamonds today, but is set to feature again for the Lambs at Woking.
