Lambs take the win over the Millers
26 July 2014The Millers got the game underway, attacking the Castle End but the first action in front of goal came in the fourth minute when Jackson rolled the ball past Loach and in off the left hand post to give The Lambs an early lead (1-0).
In the tenth minute, Rotherham equalised through Bowery’s close range header in a seemingly crowded box (1-1)
With the heat not helping, the Lambs defence stuttered around the left back position and Belshaw missed his catch when the ball popped up but punched it clear at the second attempt to deny Agard a close range finish into an otherwise empty net on 13.
A much needed drinks break came half way through the first period.
A snap shot from Agard forced Belshaw into action on 32, and Preston signalled to the bench that he couldn’t continue and had to be replaced.
Agard was then denied twice, once by his own mis-kick and then Belshaw as one of the four of the opposition who featured in the play off finals tried to make his mark at The Lamb as the first half ended goalless.
The Lambs restarted proceedings having made one change and the number 15 gave the home side the lead with a sweet freekick from the right channel into the bottom right giving Loach no chance. (2-1 49)
The Millers responded strongly and forced The Lambs to camp in the back third of the field.
Belshaw pushed the ball around the post and at the other end, on 57, sub 12 rolled the ball back to sub 15 who forced a flying save from Loach.
Clarke got on the end of a fine ball from the right wing on 59 and powered his header wide of the near post, but only by a slim margin.
Drinks breaks and substitutions then peppered proceedings once again before Brindley forced another good stop from Belshaw on 80 and the keeper tipped over a goalbound header from Sadler on 84.
A debated back pass to Loach was handled by the keeper on 87 and the referee awarded the indirect freekick inside the area which was put out for a corner.
A flag kick at the other end was well taken by Belshaw shortly before the final whistle blew on full time.
