Lambs take a point at Victory Park

FT: Chorley 1    1 Tamworth

31 October 2017After The Lambs put an end to their five game losing streak with a purposeful last minute 3-2 away win at York, Andy Morrell took his squad on Halloween to FA Cup 1st Rounder’s Chorley hoping for a back to back win, at Victory Park.
It would be difficult Matt Jansen’s side though, who came into the game on the back of just two defeats in fourteen and a seven game (6W 1D) unbeaten streak that ended at the weekend.
With four goals in two games and having hit double figures at Bootham Crescent, Styche started in an unchanged 16 from the weekend.
Tamworth got the game underway and after a spell of early pressure form the home side a dinked ball over the top nearly saw Styche spring the offside trap but keeper Urwin was quickly out to push the ball off his toes.
Deeney found the run of Styche with a floated pass to the edge of the area on 9 and the striker took it wide of the penalty spot before firing low past Urwin and wide of the far post.
Styche got pulled back 35 yards out on 16 and set up Knights with a deadball which Taylor flicked on, but it was easy for Urwin to smother.
Morley fired the ball in to the box from the left on 20 and it popped up for Styche but fell easily for Urwin again. There were half shouts for a Chorley penalty following a coming together of players on 25 which were waved away by referee Copeland.
Deeney tried a long range shot on 28 which was taken easily by Urwin at his right hand post and Knightes was pulled back on 3-0 but Leather escaped a booking. Knight’s deadball was headed goalward by Jones but Urwin was positioned well to catch it.
Styche beat his man and forced a save and clearance on 37, and when the ball came back out Knights struck goalward on the angle from the right but Urwin tipped it over for a corner which was headed behind by Jones.
Upton stole in at the last possible moment to deny the Chorley front line a chance of a shot from 6 yards. At the other end Styche advanced on goal and unleashed a shot from 25 yards which took a deflection wide for a corner on the left which was cleared.
In the next move Burns struck a snap shot on the right on a tight angle out, almost for a throw on the other side, but the intention was good.
Chorley seemed to have forced a corner in the two minutes added time but the referee blew for the break with the scoreline goalless.

HT: Chorley 0    0 Tamworth

The Lambs made a change before the second half got underway with Upton being replaced by Curley.
Taylor’s through ball to Knights, the second one of the half, set him free one on one and his shot was touched by Urwin, but he couldn’t prevent it from going underneath him and trickling into the net (1-0, 47 mins)
The lead lasted only 5 minutes though as when the ball was whipped in from the right it was not dealt with and made its way out to the left wing, so when the cross came back in O’Keefe span and volleyed the ball home. (1-1, 52 mins)
Ben Fox head Morley’s left sided cross over the bar near the far post on 56 after good work from Taylor set up the midfielder to tease the ball into the box.
Knights hit a snap shot from the right of the box out past the left hand upright on 64 and Tamworth continued to press mindful of the quick breaks that the Magpies were capable of.
One such foray down the field saw Haughton hit a low effort at Rowley on 66 and Blakeman struck a dipping volley from 20 yards which went wide of the mark but saw Rowley in full flight on 68.
Morley’s ball into the six yard box was headed home by Styche on 70 but the offside flag ruled it out and squashed the celebrations of the traveling faithful behind the goal.
On 73 Burns provided a ball into the box that warranted a decent shot but it was scrambled away and when Blakeman needed treatment in the centre circle, the players took a well-earned rest and drinks break.
Haughton’s cross from the right was headed goalward by O’Keefe on 76 and taken at head height by Rowley, and a Chorley corner caused some problems on 79 before play was halted for a foul on Deeney.
Rowley uncharacteristically miskicked on 81 and it fell for Haughton 35 yards out but his first time shot left a lot to be desired. Reid replaced Knights with 8 to go but it was the other goal that got some action around it as the minutes ticked over with Blakeman going close via a low long range shot.
Leather’s header was pushed around the post by Rowley on 89 and from the corner a similar header dropped over the keeper but the referee had spotted a push in the box and ruled out the ‘goal’ as the home side celebrated.
Three minutes added was shown at the end of the game which ended without further incident and The Lambs celebrated a fourth point from six.
