Lambs start pre-season with a victory
09 July 2013
A goal after just 18 seconds at Sheepy Road set The Lambs on course for an opening friendly victory over our local neighbours.
The home side kicked off, but Tamworth quickly gained possession and Michael Rankine advanced into the box to fire home from the left and give The Lambs the lead.
Atherstone exerted some pressure around the 20 minute mark, then captain Duane Courtneystruck a low right footed shot from the edge of the box and it was easily taken by the keeper.
Just past the half hour mark Brian 'Junior' Smikle made a darting run and Rankine flicked the resultant ball to feet just past the far upright.
Towards the end of the half more Adders pressure failed to test James Wren, as the home side finished on top, despite being a goal down.
Tamworth: Wren; Regan, Rose, Eckersley, Evans; Jones (Smikle 30), Baker, Courtney, Kerry; Rankine, Richards
A much changed Lambs side started the second half brightly, as Harris forced a save which Stuart Hendrie followed up but also saw pushed around the post in the first move after the restart.
The second goal of the game came on the hour courtesy of Hendrie's overhead finish from 8 yards, after a good corner into the danger area from Tony Capaldi.
As the game drew near to a close Capaldi was involved again, heading Scott James' right wing cross back into the box for Hendrie to attack and the resultant header was parried well by the keeper.
Tamworth: Wren; Gudger, Richards-Everton, Courtney (James 80); Capaldi, Eckersley, Harris, Evans; Ebanks, Hendrie, Smikle (Woolery 55)
