Lambs see Red at Crawley
15 February 2005
Crawley moved into second place in the Conference but the game will be remembered for the fact that it was all but decided with just 15 minutes gone.
Dave Bampton became the first Tamworth player this season to be sent from the field of play, seemingly pulling back Charlie MacDonald inches outside the penalty area when clean through.
The Lambs hadn’t had time to recover when three minutes later Robert Watkins crashed home a powerful right foot shot as the ball ran free from another Crawley corner. 0-1
It took until the half-hour mark for Crawley to get another decent shot on goal though as Neil Jenkins' strike was deflected onto the crossbar from 20 yards thanks to a fingertip save by Chris Neal.
There was a glimmer of hope at the other end for Tamworth as Mark Turner (on for Tris Whitman) and Bob Taylor tried efforts but could not find a way through.
Tait produced a sublime turn on a quickly moving ball just outside the penalty area only to see his goalbound effort deflected for a corner, then Simon Wormull broke down the right hand side and crossed to the far post for Jenkins to power home a header. 0-2
Crawley killed off the game two minutes later as Tait capped a fine display with the goal of the game. Picking up the ball outside the area, and despite the attention of the Lambs' defence on his way into the box, he chipped the ball over Neal sublimely. 0-3
