Lambs on top in first ever meeting

FT: Tamworth 3    1 Spennymoor Town

09 September 2017

On the back of a three match unbeaten run, including two goalless away points, Tamworth welcomed Spennymoor Town to the EST Electrical Services Stadium at The Lamb for the first time in the two clubs histories.
Andy Morrell made 2 changes to the side that took a good point home from league leaders Brackley in midweek with Reece Styche out following a knock in the game, and Darryl Knights returning after illness.

With the rain coming down in buckets, Tamworth got the game underway attacking the Meadow Street End.
Verma headed a right sided corner over the target on 4 but six minutes later Reid headed home from close range, meeting Curley’s right wing cross perfectly to power it past Lowson.
At the other end on 13 Rowley batted Anderson’s close range effort off the line.
Rowley took a dangerous high cross from Orrell on 21 and on 28 a deep Morley cross was put behind for a corner and when Powell picked his spot it was going in but a defensive header cleared it for another which Knights nodded over the bar.
On 34 Johnson had his name taken after another foul incurred the wrath of the partisan crowd and the referee agreed, and then on 35 Powell was flicked through by Reid, but the resulting shot was easy for Lowson.
Reid was set up unexpectedly by a miskick from Curley in the box on 38 and his snap volley went high over the target.
Burns blocked a half struck chance from the visitors with a sliding challenge on 44 and one minute added time was shown at the end of the half.

HT: Tamworth 1    0 Spennymoor Town

Spennymoor for the game back underway after making a couple of changes and The Lambs quickly went on the offensive.
But on 49 a freekick on the right was struck straight past the wall and Rowley to make it all square (1-1, 49 mins)
A double header from Verma didn’t beat Lowson on 52 but when Powell shrugged off his marker and released Knights into the right of the box to drive into the far left corner and re-establish the advantage (2-1, 55 mins)
Curley took the brunt of a high ball on the hour and required treatment for a few minutes before it became obvious he couldn’t continue, bringing Taylor into the fray.
Spennymoor tried to turn up the heat and exert some pressure to get something from the game as the final 20 minutes came into view, including a very strong tackle on Upton which left the crowd asking for a yellow card, but after consultation with his assistant in front of the stand nothing was given.
Tamworth countered though and Reid stuck from 8 yards and the keeper got down Low(son) to deny his and Verma with the follow up.
Moor’s Taylor shot wide of the near post on 81 and Henry was booked for a challenge on Deeney in front of the shed 2 minutes later.
Chandler upended Reid on route to the box on 85 and he picked up a booking for his efforts, setting up Knights with the dead ball which he struck into the net, off the wall to make it 3-1 on 86.
Verma was booked as Spennymoor set up a freekick on 88, which came to nothing.
Pegg came on for Knights as five minutes added time was shown and the heavens opened and fans ran for shelter before the final whistle blew.
