Lambs maintain top spot

FT: Tamworth 2    0 Alvechurch

12 November 2019

After Saturday’s exit from the FA Trophy, Tamworth returned to action at The Lamb again entertaining Alvechurch in the Southern League Premier Central. Captain Beswick (also celebrating his birthday), Forde, Obeng and Gough featured in the starting eleven, with Waite and Clement taking a place on the bench while Frances and Rowe-Turner did not feature.

For the visitors, former Lambs Kyle Perry started, having scored at The Lamb for Bromsgrove earlier in the season, while Fortune Maphosa took a place on manager Darren Byfield’s bench.
Alvechurch kicked off but it was The Lambs that took the initiative and the lead with 6 minutes on the clock.
A freekick from the right from Beswick was met in the centre of the box by the head of Creaney and his downward nod beat Slinn and nestle inside the near post at the Meadow Street End (1-0, 6 mins)
Obeng found himself with plenty of space in the Alvechurch box to rifle a shot home from 12 yards on 13 minutes and double The Lambs advantage, and then Beswick sprayed a ball into the box which Obeng nearly prodded past Slinn, but the visiting keeper was equal to his effort.
Hoenes then skipped past his marker in the area on 19 and with Slinn on the floor he perhaps should have done better, but fired wide of the mark from the centre of the box.
On 26 a powerful long range effort from Yafai was spilled by the keeper and nearly went into the net behind him, but he was able to recover quickly and prevent a third goal of the evening. Forde made a surging run out of midfield and into the final third setting up Obeng with a ball to his right but his shot rose quickly over the target from the right of the box and didn’t trouble Slinn.
Forde threaded the ball through to Obeng again on 45 but he was unable to get his low shot past Slinn in the final action of the first half.

HT: Tamworth 2    0 Alvechurch

Tamworth restarted proceedings and on 49 a foul set up Beswick with a deadball 30 yards out which forced Slinn to dive to his right to catch it a few feet off the ground.
A superb piece of vision by Creaney to force a corner with a reverse pass on 53 set up Beswick with the flagkick and Hoenes with a ball back in but the final shot from Yafai was off target.
A Beswick strike from 12 yards took a deflection for a corner with Slinn rooted to the spot had it gone a few feet the other way on 55 and he got his head onto a deep cross from the right on 57 but was unable to get a clear direction on it.
At the other end, deep freekick was headed high and wide by Gilpin on the hour and then Creaney hit a tame effort at Slinn which the keeper took with ease.
After Kaziboni replace Obeng Alvechurch were awarded a freekick on the left of the D and Thorndike blasted it at the wall and then followed up with a low shot at Singh.
Shouts of handball against Maphosa in the area were waved away on 71 and the Alvechurch substitute was booked for a crunching challenge on Hoenes on 73.
A deflected cross forced an Alvechurch corner on 80 and it looked like the visitors may pull one back as the ball was scrambled around the box but nothing came of the rare chance.
Waite did all the hard work but cleared the target by some distance on 86 shortly before Yafai made way for Little.
Deep into added time Kaziboni got into the box from the right and forced a corner with a shot which was on target, but nothing came from the corner, and the final whistle blew on another three points.
