Lambs impress against Orient
17 July 2013
Tamworth welcomed Russell Slade's Leyton Orient to The Lamb for the first home friendly of the pre-season.
For his first home tie in charge as manager proper Dale Belford named a starting eleven and also the same number of players on the bench.
The Lambs got the game underway kicking towards the away end and more than matched their League One opponents but a moment of hesitancy at the back allowed a ball from the left wing to fall to Odubajo who took a touch the ball and fired low into the Castle End goal to give Orient the lead on 6 minutes. (0-1)
With the visitors and the home side both playing attractive passing football the lack of clear cut chances following the goal was not really noticeable.
After a brief break for drinks midway through the half, play resumed with both teams once again keeping the ball on the deck and a spell of Lambs pressure saw Baker advance down the right wing and when he was fouled, Capaldi struck from distance, into the arms of Larkins in the Orient goal.
A long throw from Capadli on the left on 36 was met by Courtney but the effort trickled wide of the near post and on 44 Batt hit a long range dipping effort that didn't trouble Belford, but would have looked spectacular had it gone in.
A pair of corners were The Lambs reward for good play in the final third as the first half drew to a close and the ball whipped across the area but the final touch was inches away both times.
Dale Belford made two changes at half time and a penalty was awarded following a clumsy challenge but Belford dived to his left and was equal to Lisbie's effort.
Richards-Everton headed a goalbound effort from Vincelot off the line on 50 and The Lambs broke to the other end ending with a shot from newest signing Peniket which was easy for Larkins to take.
Two more subs were made on the hour with the centre back pairing being swapped and Capaldi came off shortly afterwards for Gudger before a mid half drinks break halted proceedings again.
A snap shot from Lisbie deflected for a corner on 70 and Orient forced Tamworth to defend but the final effort from Vincelot cleared the bar with some ease.
At the other end, Jones struck for goal but his left footed strike screwed past the near visitors near post.
Harris got The Lambs on level terms on 78 when a strong run from Jones into the box saw his shot come back off the near post and the former was on hand to finish from 12 yards. (1-1)
Larkins had to make a double save from a whipped in left wing cross from Jones on 83 while at the other end a challenge on the edge of the area set up Sawyer with a dead ball which he struck low for Belford to smother.
