Lambs go out of cup to holders
20 November 2007
Tamworth crashed out of the Staffs Senior Cup at the quarter final stage in a game that Kidsgrove never looked like losing.
The home side took the lead after 11 minutes when hotshot striker Michael Lennon turned his marker in the box and fired low for goal. The ball took a deflection off Philip Palethorpe before ballooning into the net, but there was little the Lambs' keeper could do about the powerful shot.
Although Tamworth then exerted some pressure of their own, the mix of first team, squad and reserve players never really gelled until after half time when substitutes Briscoe, Wright and Ebdon came on but even then chances were few and far between.
Just when it looked like The Lambs were finally getting into gear, a disastrous backpass into no man's land gave Lennon the relatively simple task of advancing, rounding Palethorpe and rolling the ball home to settle the tie with 8 minutes to go.
Kidsgrove will face either Pelsall Villa or Norton United in the semi final.
