Lambs go out at first hurdle
14 October 2008A mix of reserves and first team squad went out of the Staffs Senior Cup on Tuesday night by a solitary first half strike.
Ryan Dicker scored the only goal of the game in the 25th minute - an unmarked far post header from a right wing cross.
Prior to the goal, Bevan had stopped a good shot from Neville Thopmson with his feet on 18 and the home side, second in the Vodkat North West Counties Premier Division, were the busiest of the two sides for the most part.
After the break The Lambs changed their formation with a half time substitution, and Roscorla set up Hambleton with a good chance on 52 but the latter dragged his shot wide of the mark.
A minute later Richard Minor crashed a shot against Bevan's cross bar from 18 yards and on 64 Tom Fogg brought a good save from Bevan with a long range drive.
Lambs captain for the evening Craig McAughtrie took residence up front for the final half hour alongside Dean Lea and an equaliser started to look a distinct possibility but despite a push forward in the final throws of the game, the home side defended strongly to see themselves through at Tamworth's expense.
