FT: Royston Town 0    2 Tamworth

06 April 2019

For game 38 of 42 Tamworth travelled to Garden Walk to face Royston Town on their own turf for the first time. Fans could find the best online betting sites during the game on their phones.
Smith and Danylyszyn made three changes to the starting eleven with Gough, Beswick and Shaw coming in for Magunda (suspended) and Dias and Spencer (both on the bench) Tamworth got the game underway and the travelling Lambs fans made their way to the opposite end of the ground to get behind the goal that Tamworth were attacking in the first half.

A dangerous freekick from the right forced a corner on the right inside the second minute and Beswick lifted the ball to the near post.
It was headed away but when Clement cushioned the ball back into the area and Kettle diverted it past Welch to make it 1-0 to The Lambs (1-0, 3 mins)
Beswick lined up another dead ball on 7, this time from 30 yards out, with only Gough and Stabana behind him but it was straight at Welch and the keeper held it easily.
A high throw forced Kettle to head behind for a corner on 11 and Stabana headed it away at the near post strongly. A long range effort from the Knowles smashed against Singh’s left hand upright on 15 and Neal tried to follow up from the edge of the area but was thwarted by the Lambs defence.
Waite was booked on 18 for protesting against a decision and when James lost the ball in midfield he did very well to track back and win it back off the Crows midfielder.
A knock to the head meant that Kinali had to get some treatment off the field but he was thankfully OK to continue.
Knowles struck a deadball from the left side on 27 and forced Singh to push it around the post for a corner which the keeper took at height, but a foul on the same player kept the ball with the home side and a header from Parr eventually made its way back to the keeper.
A dangerous run by Kinali forced Green to dive in and protect the near post and concede a corner on 33 and Knowles ball into the area was headed on and out past the far post by Crows defender Parr.
Knowles was involved again on 37 with a low shot from the left wing and forced Singh into a low stop, but play switched quickly to the other end and the ball was threaded through to Waite who slotted it home to double the lead. (2-0, 38 mins)
A Beswick corner on 41 was deflected off for another on 42 and taken at height by Welch as The Lambs looked to end the half on even more of an up.
Clement picked up a booking on 44 for a high boot in the middle of the park and Crowther got his head onto the freekick but couldn’t get it anywhere near the target.

HT: Royston Town 0    2 Tamworth

Royston restarted proceedings with Tamworth now kicking up the ground towards the clubhouse where fans would gather to watch the Grand National after the final whistle.
Welch was tested by a header from James on 48 after Waite made headway down the right and into the area before lifting the ball into the back of the area for James to meet.
Kettle was adjudged to have brought down Knowles outside the left of the box on 53 after Singh had played a short ball out to the defender and so Knowles stepped up to strike the deadball and there was a melee in the area as boots tried to strike the ball in or out of the box and Tamworth eventually got the ball away.
Beswick floated a left sided corner in to the area on 58 but Kettle was unable to get any purchase on it and it went behind for a goalkick and Beswick required treatment for a nose bleed shortly afterwards.
Knowles floated a corner of his own into the area on 62 and Gough headed it away for another on the same side which Singh punched it clear and Tamworth broke.
James surged forwards and tried to get past Thomas but was pulled back by home captain Thomas who received a red card for his troubles and Beswick curled the freekick into the side netting.
With the man advantage Shaw found space to strike from distance on 66 but hit his shot just wide of the left hand post and Waite was sent tumbling by Kinali on 67 setting up Beswick with the deadball.
It was headed away by Brathwaite, who had taken over the captain’s armband, for a Beswick corner on the right which Royston defended and it allowed Knowles to break from midfield and force a corner on the right.
Clement’s tackle on Knowles set up the latter with a freekick 20 yards out on 74 but his freekick deflected off the wall for a corner and Knowles flagkick was met by the head Joseph and nearly finished by Parr at the far post but Singh was not going to be beaten and smothered it on the line.
A shot from James deflected out for a right sided corner on 77 and Beswick’s lifted it towards Waite but the flag and Parr’s header denied him a clear chance of a second goal.
Dias replaced Shaw with just under 10 to play and Stanley struck an audacious volley from the right of the box high over the target in the next move.
Stanley went down off the ball on 83 and Beswick knocked it out of play to give the quick winger chance of attention from the physio which he duly received.
The Lambs completed their substitutions on 86 with Spencer and Gordon coming on for the final few minutes.
Dias robbed the ball and rattled a right footed shot away into the side netting on 88 and at the other end Stabana headed a powerful volley off the line to keep the cleansheet secure and the final whistle blew on three points to lift The Lambs up to eleventh with four games remaining.
