Lambs fight back to gain a draw

FT: Quorn 2    2 Tamworth

29 July 2008

After a first half which took the travelling Lambs faithful by suprise, Tamworth picked up the pace in the second period and earned a draw from their penultimate friendly.

The Lambs looked out of sorts for parts of the first half being frustrated when they tried to play their passing game and fell a goal behind after 11 minutes.
A fotuitous rebound allowed Liam Hearn some space inside his own half and he proceeded to sprint down the left wing before cutting past Craig McAughtrie and firing into the far corner of Will Puddy's goal (0-1).
Alex Rodman and Nick Wright tried switching sides at one point but it did little to help the Lambs cause although it was obvious that when Tamworth played quicker, their hosts found it difficult to cope fully, something that experienced defender and suibstitute Des Lyttle made them aware of from the touch line on more than one occasion. Boss Gary Mills and assistant Darron Gee were already urging their side to get the ball moving around to feet and an great strike came from an unlikely source with 10 first half minutes to go when Dominic Langdon hit a belter but was denied by Michael Payne in the Quorn goal.
But a long goal kick was flicked on for Hearn just before the break and the nippy marksman got the better of the Lambs defence again and rifled his shot home to double his tally and the lead. (0-2)
HT: 0-2
The second half by comparison was the flip side to the coin with Tamworth playing as they have in previous friendlies aided by the introduction of Lyttle and Dean Lea who ran rings around the home side and Dale Warburton also added another option, but the whole side should be given credit for picking up the pace and taking the game to Quorn.
Bradley Pritchard got the first Lambs goal 20 or so minutes into the secon period, forcing the ball over the line after a great ball from captain Martin Foster found him with time while under pressure on the edge of the box before prodding home (1-2) and the equaliser was just what trialist Lea deserved, Foster again having a hand in the goal from a freekick which Lea netted from an ever decreasing angle against ex-Lambs keeper Sean Bowles.
