Lambs defeat ten men Pilgrims

FT: Tamworth 2    1 Boston United

15 August 2017

On the back of the long distance defeat to Blyth at the weekend, Andy Morrell made one change to the starting eleven to face the Pilgrims from Boston.
Louis Ezewele came in for Jack Lane as The Lambs looked to get back to winning ways and Boston fielded a former Lamb in Jordan Keane.

Tamworth kicked off attacking the Castle End but Boston forced a corner on 2 which was too long and came to nothing.
Taylor was pulled to the floor on the right wing on 9 and Morley sent the dead ball which was put into the area by Styche who fed Taylor and it then fell to Verma but Boston defended strongly and conceded four corners in succession with the final one being taken by Willis.
A ball through the back line set Sytche free on 21 and he was pushed in the back as he shaped to shoot by Cowgill giving referee Fearn a simple decision of a penalty and a red card. Styche dispatched the penalty past Willis on 22 to give The Lambs the lead (1-0, 22 mins)
Warren curled a shot at Rowley on 26 and the keeper parried it before smothering the loose ball then after Keane had pushed Styche in the back 26 yards out, Knights struck the freekick past the wall and Willis did well to take it, dropping to his left.
Jones, Burns and Taylor got the ball own the right on 37 but the low pass into the area was gathered by Willis before Styche could get to it, and Burn’s ball into the area on 39 invited a header on goal but Styche was too far forward and Knights too far back.
Styche then set up Verma with a sight on goal and he tried to lift it into the top corner but it rose over the goal as The Lambs continued to play the ball around and frustrate ten man Boston.
A deep freekick from the visitors was flapped at by Rowley and when it ran into the left wing Tamworth conceded a foul which Hemmings sent to the far post and Batchelor nodded it wide.
Another foul on Styche sent the ball to the far post for Verma to try a volley but he couldn’t direct it goalward and the whistle blew.

HT: Tamworth 1    0 Boston United

Boston made a change before restarting the game and ficked a header from a long throw on the right onto the top of the net on 46. In the next move substitute Tishmonga made the perfect impact, slotting home a through ball from the edge of the area, under the advancing Rowley. (1-1, 47 mins)
A couple of booking were dished out around the 50 minute mark. First Warren for a foul on Taylor and then Deeney was penalised for a trip on the half way line.
Knights did well to turn his man and float a shot diagonally at goal but it rose over the target on 54 and on the next move Styche was off target with a snap shot.
A trip on Burns set up Knights with a freekick in the right channel on the hour and Jones got his head to it at the far post but it was always a little too high and his attempt on goal was off target.
A melee on the left of the area gave Knights another freekick to place into the area but more argy bargy stopped play for a while and the chance came to nothing.
The Lambs kept up the pressure and it paid off on 71 when Knights picked up the ball on the edge of the area, took a stride into the box and rifled a powerful shot in off the bar to lift the home crowd. (2-1, 71 mins)
The Lambs made their first change as Reid came on for Taylor on 75.
Deeney found Morley with a defence splitting through ball into the left of the box on 78 and his shot was parried behind for a corner shortly before Davies replaced Knights.
The visitors exerted some pressure around the 85th minute mark but Tamworth rode the wave and forced a corner at the other end which was quickly cleared.
United found the ball at their feet on the edge of the area on 89 and Keane lifted his shot over the bar as three minutes added time was shown.
United forced a corner by the clubhouse on 93 but it was cleared and as the clock hit 94 the whistle blew on three well deserved points.
