Lambs crash out of scrappy encounter

FT: Stafford Rangers 1    0 Tamworth

16 September 2017

The Lambs made the short journey to Marston Road to face EvoStik Northern Premier League and County rivals, Stafford Rangers in the FA Cup.

Other than the required change of keeper, with Jezeph coming in for Rowley, Andy Morrell made no changes to the side that ran out 2-1 winners on Tuesday night.
For the home side former players Louis Briscoe started and Kai Davis sat on the bench.

Rangers got the game underway with Tamworth, in yellow, attacking the clubhouse end of the ground.
Powell forced a corner on the left in the second minute and Jones flicked it backwards but Reid lifted his shot high over the target. Burns threaded it down the right for Powell but his first touch was too heavy and Whitehouse gathered the loose ball.
Reid lifted the ball over the Lambs left and Abadaki forced a corner on the right on 6 which Burns and then Jones headed away.
A long throw from Geohaghon caused problems on 8 and on 10 Lane clattered Abadaki giving the home side a freekick on the corner of the box which evaded all touches as it bounced out far past the far post.
Reid was tripped on the right wing on 13 and Knights deadball was taken by Whitehouse and released quickly upfield.
Tamworth countered though and knights nearly released Powell through the centre but the keeper was quickly out A poor clearance by The Lambs defence nearly let Briscoe in with a sight on goal but a blocking tackle disrupted the play.
Long balls out of defence looking for runs down the wings seemed to by the order of the day, and one was hooked away by Geohaghon.
The tall number 4 launched another throw into the area on 26 but Tamworth broke through Jones and Knight and when Briscoe was dispossessed by Reid his shot was a tame one at the home keeper. A flowing move out of the Rangers defence released Abadaki and Izak Reid but the former shot high over the goal from 18 yards.
Jezeph took a diagonal cross come shot from Abadaki at height on 34 and The Lambs continued to struggle to take control of the game fully.
Geohaghon’s long throw forced Jones to head it away off the penalty spot on 36 but a foul on Burns halted play.
An elbow on Lane inside his own half left the Lambs player needing treatment on 39 and a drop ball resumed the play and after the final five minutes passed frustratingly, the half time whistle blew.

HT: Stafford Rangers 0    0 Tamworth

Tamworth restarted proceedings and went up field early, but Powell, Verma and Deeney all struggled to get a shot away.
Brown was booked for a tackle on Verma which left the player on the ground on 49 and Powell was upended by Geohaghon on the left of the box on 51.
Knights fired it into the area and it caught the top of the net on the way over the bar.
A decent move out of midfield was hampered when Knights ball into the box was blocked on 52.
On 55 a freekick was only half cleared and Langston picked it up on the edge of the area and hit it low on target, but Jezeph was not to be beaten, smothering the ball.
Reid’s cross was met by Knights on 56 but he couldn’t squeeze it home and then Powell clipped the top of the bar with a shot from inside the box.
A run into the area by Powell earned a corner on the left on the hour and Knights ball into the box didn’t have chance to cause a problem as the referee spotted a foul.
Morley crossed low from the left on 62 but Reid and Knights couldn’t get the finishing touch, and as if to add insult to injury Ranger sprinted down the other end, Abadaki crossed and Izak Reid headed home (0-1, 63 mins)
After a couple of substitutions The Lambs made headway with Powell forcing a save and a corner and then Jones forcing one from the first flag kick but the second one came to nothing. At the other end Sherratt hit a low shot which Jezeph gathered.
Reid looked for the equaliser on 79 but lifted his shot over the bar from 18 yards.
Izak Reid was booked on 82 for the home side as Tamworth pushed everyone but Jezeph into the Rangers half, but Stafford were having other ideas as the clock ticked down and Deeney was booked for a challenge on the half way line.
Langston needed treatment in the 89th minute and four additional minutes were indicated by the officials to the bench. Briscoe fired the deadball from the drop ball over Jezeph from the halfway line and picked up a booking for his efforts, although it was some strike!
Former Lamb Kai Davis replaced the goalscorer on 93 and forced a corner off Burns.
A 97th minute penalty claim after Jones tumbled in the box was waved away and when play restarted from the goalkick the whistle blew and ended the Lambs tenure in the FA Cup.
