Lambs capitulate to three late strikes
10 December 2005
Tamworth travelled to Crawley looking for 3 points for a much needed boost in their Conference campaign.
Without the suspended Kyle Storer, Cooper was forced to play himself in midfield and with Jake Edwards unavilable Carl Heggs came into attack for The Lambs.Tris Whitman, on loan at Crawley, was not able to take the field for either side.
With both sides needing the points to move themselves away form the relegation zone, it was quite suprising to see neither pushing themselves to the limit to do so. The only chance of the first half coming from a Matt Redmile header which skimmed the outside of the post on 28 minutes.
Crawley had more of the play looking perhaps the quicker in coming forward especially with proven striker Daryl Clare in attack, but neither he nor any of the other 21 players on the field could produce an above average ball into the area.
Redmile put the ball in the back of the net for The Lambs on 55 minutes but his header from a Carl Motteram corner was ruled out for pushing in the area.
Scott Bevan had a tame header to deal with a few minutes later as both sides seemed to wake up after a lacklustre opneing hour, but still both teams lacked the killer instinct.
It was that Crawley took the initiative though on 79 minutes from a short corner. Tony Scully recieved the pass and chipped the ball foward to allow Dave Woozley a relatively easy header low to Bevan's right to give the home side the lead.
And it was 2-0 to Crawley on 86 when The Lambs defence called for offside but with Anaclet stranded further up field, no flag was raised and Steve Burton burst forward to fire low under Bevan.
Burton then made it three in stoppage time with a well placed shot over Bevan after advancing through a static Lambs defence.
As if to and insult to injury, Matt Redmile recieved a red card after the final whistle for foul and abusive language directed at a match official.
