Lambs back to winning ways

FT: Tamworth 4    1 North Ferriby United

30 March 2018

Good Friday’s rain soaked run out against the already relegated Villagers saw Mike Fowlers Lambs needing a win to try and move away from the bottom four, after the results of earlier in the day had added the pressure onto his side’s performance in front of a home crowd ahead of a very tricky visit to in-form Stockport on Easter Monday.
Fowler made four changes to the side that suffered defeat to Curzon Ashton brining Morley and Davies into the side, while handing Angus and Donohue full debuts in a 4-4-2 formation that needed to start the game on the front foot and keep it on the gas for the full 90 minutes.
Tamworth got the game underway, attacking the Meadow Street End in the first half. Angus and Asante started brightly with the former forcing a corner on 3 and the latter striking off target a minute later.
Neither side could take hold of proceedings but on 12 Morley whipped a left wing cross in which whizzed past three Lambs heads in the box before going out for a throw.
With the ball pinging about Taylor tried a snap shot on his left foot and forced a corner which Ferriby cleared.
Davies broke forward and was felled by Forrester who picked up a booking and from the ensuing deadball Angus broke in the box down the left and fired in to the roof of the net from the left angle to lift the roof of the Shed and put The Lambs in the lead (1-0, 19 mins)
When Davies was upended on the right wing by Robson on 27 Morley lined up his freekick for Verma to powerfully head home from close range to double the advantage (2-0, 28 mins)
A nudge on Angus on the left of the box saw a freekick being awarded and Donohue struck it right footed into in the near post but Exall was equal to it.
A left sided corner from Donohue on 38 was cleared at the far post and Ferriby surged forwards but Taylor and Lane eventually cleared their lines but the offside trap prevented Angus from sprinting onto Asante’s through ball.
A dangerous challenge by Robson on Lane earned him a booking on 40 and a talking to for Lane and Lofte followed him into the notebook four minutes later.
From the ensuing play Asante finished a rebound off the post following a header by Verma to make it 3-0 after one minute of added time.

HT: Tamworth 3    0 North Ferriby United

Ferriby restarted the game with the rain still driving down and made a change five minutes later.
Angus’s blocked shot fell to Asante on the edge of the area on 52 but his strike took a deflection back to Exall Ferriby pulled one back on 57 when Kettle slipped and Collins picked up the ball, threaded it through the back line and Nicholls finished past Stevens from 12 yards (3-1, 57 mins)
On the hour, Verma struck the edge of the box with a powerful strike that took a deflection just wide of the mark and from the corner Ferriby half cleared but Donohue forced another which Lane headed powerfully wide of the same post that Verma had skimmed.
On 65 a corner came in from the right and Lane span on the ball at the far post and made it 4-0 through a crowd of players.
On 70, a rare shot from Burns in the right of the area skimmed the left hand corner of the goal frame and Fowler made two changes in personnel shortly after.
Taylor drilled a low cross into the box from the right on 76 but no one could get the final touch, and in the next move he picked up the ball and drilled it wide of the mark from distance.
A tug on Asante on the Lambs right wing on 80 set up Morley with another freekick but it was hoofed clear to Harrison on the half way line although the visitors were unable to make any headway.
Asante’s sweeping shot from the left of the area on 84 went out past the far post and Fowler made his final change.
As the minutes ticked down, a right sided corner was headed down and just wide of the far post by Kettle and the final whistle blew without any added time being played.
