Lambs and Cards share four wet goals

FT: Woking 2    2 Tamworth

13 September 2013

Friday the thirteen beckoned for The Lambs trip to Kingfield Stadium to face Woking in the pouring rain and boss Belford made no changes to the side that defeated Southport 4-1 the previous Saturday.
Woking got the game underway, with Tamworth attacking the smaller of the two covered stands behind the goal but it was Belford who got the first touch of the two keepers when the ball skipped to him off the drenched surface.
And the Lambs keeper was forced to parry a thumping low shot from Rendell inside the second minute too as the home side put their Cards squarely on the table.
Alliyu tried a cheeky lob from 25 yards on 5 which floated wide of the mark and into the stand as players feet started to make big splashes on the playing surface.
A right wing cross from Sawyer on 10 caused the Lambs defence some problems, while on 15 Evans right sided cross took a massive deflection and won him a corner on the right which Capaldi curled in but keeper Howe rose to catch.
A spell of pressure from Tamworth saw Wright nip in and try to lift the bouncing ball over the keeper but it took a deflection and went out for a corner. From the flag kick the ball came back out on the half volley for Baker to try his luck and he squeezed the ball inside the right hand post to give The Lambs the lead. (1-0, 24 mins)
On the half hour a ball from the right from Wright skipped into the box but no one was able to control it and it was hooked clear by the Woking defence.
Both keepers were forced to protect their areas shortly after with Howe being bore down on by Alliyu and Belford coming up against not one, not two, but three Woking players eager to latch onto a loose ball, but Belford held onto it, despite the continual downpour.
Thomas did well to deny the run of Betsy into the area on 39, sliding alongside him to scoop the ball out of the spray.
With the rain bent on trying to give the groundsmen and referee problems and decisions at half time due to one area of the Kingfield pitch in particular, the Lambs went in search of a second but Evans right footed dead ball from the left wing skimmed over the cross bar on 43.
On 44 Williams got his head to a pin point cross from the right wing and skimmed the ball just wide of the near post, livening up the home faithful in the big seating stand as Belford seemed relatively happy to let it go out at chest height into the side netting.
One minute added time was played out at the end of the half as the groundsmen got their forks ready!

HT: Woking 0    1 Tamworth

Woking emerged in a different kit for the second half - a nice dry yellow away kit, while Tamworth played on in the blue away kit and kicked off.
Evans was booked for a foul on Betsy on 48 which swathe Lambs defender need treatment before Williams freekick was punched over the bar by Belford for a corner on the left.
The corner bounced as best it could in the six yard box and Belford was forced to deny Parkinson at close range.
Courtney then came on for Evans who hobbled off the pitch.
With the rain seemingly holding back or a few minutes, thoughts of a stop to the downpour were quashed on 54 when the heavens opened another sluice gate over Kingfield.
Great play from Peniket, Wright, Lloyd and Baker kept Tamworth in the top end of the field for a good few minutes around the hour mark and from the second of a couple of Capaldi corners, Richards-Everton glances his header wide of the far post.
A long ball forward looked to have been taken by Howe on 60 but he spilled the ball and Wright attempted an over head finish from the edge of the box, but it floated wide of the far post.
Woking then enjoyed some time on the ball at Belford's end and there were calls for a penalty against The Lambs on 65 but the ball whipped across the box so quickly and the referee had a good enough view to decide that there was no foul nor intent.
Then on 66 Cetsor made headway down the left and crossed for Rendell who glanced his centre positioned header past the far post.
On 70 the scores were level when Rendell inadvertently deflected a speculative 25 yard effort from Sawyer inside the left hand upright (1-1, 70) and on 73 Peniket was booked for protesting against a decision.
Then on 77 Courtney  was adjudged to have brought Sole down as they both went for the ball in the box and Williams stepped up to take the spot kick fooling Belford and making it 2-1 with a right footed strike just right of centre (1-2, 78 mins).
A fracas broke out after the restart when Williams was on the floor and boots tangled. In the end Belford and Courtney were booked for involvement and related misdemeanours taking the card count to four.
Scores were level again on 84 though as Peniket added his third of the season with a neat finish from 6 yards after The Lambs worked the ball down the left wing and across and into the box through the Cards defence. (2-2, 84 mins)
Sawyer tried a shot from distance on 89 but found Belford positioned well to smother the shot and four minutes added time was shown.
Cestor picked up his sides first booking of the evening when he slid into Belford outside of the area as both went for the loose ball down the Woking left wing.
Inside the last minute and Peniket won a corner on the right which was headed over the bar shortly before the full time whistle blew.
