Imps take victory
13 April 2013
After Thursday night's defeat at Alfreton, which saw the Derbyshire side secure their tenure in the top flight for another season, Dale Belford brought his Lambs to Sincil Bank with both sides requiring something from their remaining games to do likewise.
Tamworth started the game one point ahead of Lincoln who were themselves, on point ahead of the relegation zone and the home club were billing the game as the biggest in the clubs recent history
Belford made five changes to the side that ran out at the Impact Arena less than 48 hours previously with Byfield, Gudger, Till, Harrop and Oji all coming into the starting line up.
Tamworth got the game underway kicking towards the Stacey West Stand and after an exchange of passes into either half y both sides, Breeden was forced to punch the ball away from his area and out for a throw in, which was knocked away from danger by Hendrie.
On 7 Peter Till unleashed a right footed cross from the right wing and although it did not reach his intended target, Imps defender Gray diverted the ball over keeper Farman and into the back of the net to give The Lambs an early lead. (1-0, 7 mins)
Oji blocked a goal bound snap shot from Oliver on 12 although Breeden was behind the Lambs defender and would have had the shot covered.
Harrop picked up a booking for a challenge on Turnbull as the ball made it's way out of the Lincoln defence, and play continued with neither side really able to create in the final third.
On 28 though, a move ended by Brown's over head kick would have seen an equalising goal had it not been for the head of Tait who managed to divert it around the post and out to the relative safety of a corner which Breeden took easily.
Hendrie fed Kelly with a fine cross midfield ball on 35 and The Lambs continued the attacking mode through the latter's pass to Till but his chipped cross into the box was just to long for anyone to get on to and Farman was happy to see it out of play.
A corner was forthcoming on 39 but Wylde couldn't get direction onto his header past the far post.
On 40, Oliver flashed a header over the bar while at the other end Cunnington struck right footed but failed to test Farman with his strike.
Two minutes added time was shown at the end of the half and it finished without further incident.
City got the second half underway, with Tamworth now attacking the end where the Lambs fans are situated (albeit on the side of the ground)
Power's right footed low shot took a deflection off Oji and went out for a Lincoln corner on 48 which was cleared by Kelly.
Byfield was denied a penalty on 52 when he tangled in the box with Brown - the referee not entertaining any thoughts of a spot kick against the Imps defender.
Then at the other end, Oliver saw his left sided close range shot scrambled away by Breeden.
65 gone and Breeden denies Oliver's goalbound header with a superb one handed claw out of the goalmouth but the Lambs keeper couldn't do anything about Taylor's header on 67 which went in off the far post to level the tie.
On 77, Breeden took a few moments to change his gloves much to the consternation of the home faithful behind the goal.
Then, on 82, a penalty was awarded against Sam Oji on Jake Jones and Alan Power slotted home, sending Breeden the wrong way from the spot (1-2, 82 mins)
Three minutes added time were played at the end of the game, but despite a booking for Oji following a foul in the centre circle there was nothing more to report.
