Hats off to Reece

FT: Tamworth 3    1 Stockport County

28 August 2017

Following the defeat away at Harrogate on Saturday, The Lambs returned home to take on the Hatters of Stockport County.
Andy Morrell made two changes to the side with Jack Lane and Bradley Reid coming in for Louis Ezewele and the injured Connor Taylor.

Stockport got the game underway attacking the Castle End in the first half and forced a corner form a deflected shot inside the second minute which was headed over the bar by Walker a the near post.
Hesitancy at the back saw the visitors take the lead on 5 when Minihan sneaked through the back line controlled the ball and rolled it low into the net past the exposed Rowley. (0-1, 5 mins)
But it was all square on 11 when Deeney’s ball found Knights and he threaded it through to Reid who in turn took it past Hinchliffe and found the back of the net (1-1, 11 mins)
The Lambs continued to press with Styche and Reid and Knights all getting involved and despite the heat the game continued at a quick pace.
Rowley punched the ball away from his near post when County fired a powerful corner into the box on 29 and at the other end Styche fed Deeney and his chip into the box had to be headed back to Hinchliffe.
Styche went very close on 35 when his angled close range lob over Hinchliffe went wide of the far post.
There was time for a quick drinks break on 41 when Styche got clattered and needed treatment to his ankle, but he was fine to play on after the players had been suitably refreshed.
A 44th minute County corner was headed behind at the near post for another and the booted away Jones for a throw as a minimum two minutes added time was shown.

HT: Tamworth 1    1 Stockport County

The Lambs restarted proceedings but it was Stockport who forced the first corner of the second half on 47, in front of their massed fans, and it was too long and went out for a goal kick.
County forced another on 48 as they continued their strong start to the second period.
A Lambs freekick by the clubhouse set up Knights forced Hinchliffe to tip the ball, destined for the top corner, over the bar but the resulting flag kick was wasted.
Stockport fired the ball into the area from both wings as the game continued, but it was always too high for anyone to get anything on it.
Styche was upended as he ran towards the box on 57 which allowed Knights and Morley to dscuss tactics, but it was the former who floated it to the far post, for Jones to head back into the mix and it looked like Styche would head it home but he couldn’t get over it and it looped onto the roof of the net.
And the County keeper was forced into action on 63 when Deeney unleashed a rocket from distance, the keeper did well to push it up and over the bar from a few feet off the floor.
Styche unleashed a similar shot from the opposite side of the pitch on 65 and once again the keeper pushed it away for a corner which was headed over by Upton.
Rowley punched the ball clear from a County cross on 67 and the visitors kept up the pressure with a near post corner and then a freekick which found Clark at the far post but his header was high.
Following a drinks break, both sides made a change around 70. Styche found the target again on 73 but again Hinchliffe was equal to his effort from the left of the box but he got his rewards on 76 when his shot from the edge of the box took a slight deflection to take it past the keeper and into the far right corner. (2-1, 76 mins)
Fox replaced Knights on 78 and substitute Curley was on hand to deflect the loose ball away from the far post on 82.
In a counter attack from a lot of County pressure Deeney found Styche and he was upended in the box for an 89th minute penalty which he took himself, sent the keeper the wrong way and made it 3-1.
A minimum of three minutes added time was shown at the end of the game and both Burns and Sytche having efforts parried by the keeper.
