Great second half but no goal means another away point
18 October 2014Andy Morrell took his squad on the relatively short journey to Northants to face Jon Brady’s Brackley Town and The Saints featured Eddie Ohiambo (Anaclet) who made a few appearances for The Lambs in 2005-06 season. For the Lambs, Dave Hibbert made a return after his knock to the head against Fylde and Rob Purdie came back in after sitting on the bench in the FA Cup against Lowestoft.
Tamworth kicked off the game towards the ‘BTFC’ stand with the home side attacking the cricket pitch end of the ground. Inside the second minute Jeffers rolled the ball past the right hand post despite close attention from Paul Green.
An eighth minute corner for The Lambs was halted for a foul in the play from the flag kick while at the other end on 12 the home side forced a couple of corners and when play ensured, Eric (Odhiambo) forced Belshaw to protect his left hand post from a well drilled low shot and push it around the post.
Jeffers got the better of the Lambs defence again on 20 and his chipped cross was glanced onto the front face of the cross bar by Nelon-Addy with Belshaw seemingly beaten.
James spotted Turley off his line on 23 and attempted a long range lob from the left channel but the keeper was able to watch it go out past the far post. On 25 Belshaw did very well to claw away Ryan Austin’s header from under the bar, and Belshaw did similarly to push away Jeffers header on 26.
A slip from Preston allowed Jeffers to break through on 32 but his shot was found wanting and Belshaw was able to collect it easily. The were was little to report on the field before the half time whistle blew, other than a last minute penalty appeal when Hibbert was tackled in the area by Sharpe and despite a good shout the referee indicated that he got the ball not the man and the whistle blew for half time.
Brackley got the game back underway and in the 48th minute Daniel ran onto a pull back and struck goalwards but even with a big deflection Turley was able to push the chance away off the line. Clarke then struck left footed from distance and Turley plucked the ball out of the air well, as the Tamworth faithful started to witness a different side to that they had watched in the first half.
Jackson saw his shot blocked on 62.
Great work from Green through the midfield eventually set up Daniels with a left footed strike on goal from the left of the box on 65 but his shot rose over the keeper and bar.
The play from The Lambs continued to keep Brackley on the back foot and the introduction of Thornton for the lively Daniels forced a corner on the right but no one was able to get a header on target and Brackley cleared.
The Lambs forced another corner on 80 on the left and Morrell brought himself on for Jackson as the first one was headed behind for another but Preston’s header was off target.
Despite a lot of hard work to get into eth final third in the last there was no last minute winner and The Lambs had to settle for their 6th away league draw in seven.
