Good signs at Solihull
19 July 2011
With an array of players to choose from, Marcus Law's side recorded a goal in each half to earn second preseason victory in five run outs.
The home side were unlukcy not to take an early lead when Ryan Beswick failed to make contact with the loose ball after just a couple of minutes, but The Lambs went on to create numerous chances with Danny Mills (from Peterborough, and lined up against The Lambs for Histon last season), Dan Bradley and Keiron St Aimee all going close or setting up good chances through the first 45 minutes.
Add to this some excellent corners from Jay Smith and a determinedness from Sam Habergham and there was no surprise that the opening goal fell to Tamworth. It came from Duane Courtney who slammed home a close range shot into the roof of the net after a corner had been cleared and come back in again. (1-0, 20 mins)
Solihull did have some good chances of their own though as the half went on with Simon Johnson standing out and performing well. He was thwarted twice by the diving saves of Jon Hedge in the Lambs goal who commanded his area and looked strong against a couple of difficult and powerful efforts.
After the break, and following a number of changes on both sides Ashley Cain almost doubled the lead for Tamworth but missed his shot when well positioned. However, Nabil Sharrif followed up and struck the left hand upright with a low drive.
At the other end, in the next move, James McPike struck the opposite post from close range and then when play switched back the other way Sharrif curled the ball over the keeper but found the woodwork in the way and his effort cannoned back out off the bar.
With the minutes ticking down, it was left to Danny Thomas to skip through the Moors defence from Cain's nod down and slot the ball past Jas Singh to give Tamworth a two goal win. (2-0, 84 mins)
