Good show by Lambs against Stags

FT: Tamworth 1    1 Mansfield Town

11 July 2015Lambs boss Andy Morrell selected his first team of the 2015-16 season in a good pre-season workout against Legaue 2 opposition as both sides fielded 2 complete sides during the match.

Tamworth got off the to best possible start when new boys Danny Newton and Ross Dyer linked up for the latter to net after just 3 minutes with the visiting keeper stranded and Dyer with the simplest of finishes in front of the 174 travelling Stags supporters.
Morrell made 6 changes at the break and joined the fray for the final 10 minutes or so alongside a couple of his U21 squad in a second half peppered by numerous changes to the opposition side.
But there was no let up in the speed of application of the two sides and while James Belshaw had virtually little to do in the first 45 minutes, second half keeper Raaj Gill had to be on top form to deny Adi Yussuf on three separate occasions when the visiting striker got into the box.
Gill had been unable to do anything about the visitors though when Nathan Thomas lifted the ball from the right of the box into the far
top left corner on 55.

HT: Tamworth 1    0 Mansfield Town

After the game, Morrell said 'It was a good work out and I'm pleased with how the lads have performed. Going straight into it against a League club has given us a foundation to build on.

We gave a couple of the U21 squad a run out at left back and centre half and that's the benefit of having a 'second team' - something we haven't had at the club for a while.
I'm still looking for a couple more additions to give strength in depth but am happy to wait to see who becomes available as pre-season goes on. We'll be fielding a similar side on Tuesday at Hinckley (at Heather St. Johns) and give everyone more minutes.'

Tamworth Team:
First half: Belshaw, Burns, Warlow, Tomassen, Preston, Green, Durrell, Clarke, Newton, Dyer, Davies

Second half: Gill, Burns, Warlow (Millard* on 66), Tomassen (Morrell 80), Preston (Hubbins on 68), Patori, Taylor, Lewis, Newton (Selway* on 68), Mettam, Smith
