Golden Mapgies hit Lambs for six

FT: Chorley 6    0 Tamworth

28 March 2015

Tamworth travelled to Victory Park and Andy Morrell was made two changes to the side that had started against Hednesford seven days previously. Phil Trainer took a place on the bench as Josh Sampson returned from injury and Chris Smith came in for Dom Smith who was away on U21 duty with Wales. It was Smith’s first appearance for The Lambs since April 30 2011 when The Lambs secured their place in the top flight of non league football with virtually the last kick of the game, live on TV.

Chorley got the game underway attacking the larger of the two stands behind the goals and Taylor had the first effort, a low strike from 25 yard that was easy for Ashton.
A clash between Doyle and Hibbert saw the home defender needing the magic sponge on 5 and Hibbert powerfully headed Jarvis’ long ball away from danger when play resumed.
Chorley striker Dean received a booking for a late challenge on Smith on 7 and there was uproar from the home fans when James appeared to pull back Hine in the box on 10 only for the penalty claims to be waved away.
James and Hine clashed on the right and the freekick was eventually gathered by Belshaw.
Play continued and in the 15th minute Dean was subject to a late challenge in the centre circle, setting up Jarvis with a dead ball that made its way back to Belshaw.
Hine was flagged offside on 19 but continued to play past the whistle so Sampson tried to get the ball back and the two clashed resulting in a yellow card for The Lambs defender.
Then the Magpies leading goalscorer Dean turned provider with a pin point cross from the left which Hine headed from the back of the box into the near far post to make it 0-1 on 21.
Whitham forced Belshaw to protect his goal from a well directed header on 25.
Play continued with almost nothing to mention for the next 15 minutes as both sides struggled to make anything of the possession they had and the ball bounced back and forth over the half way line.
A long throw by Wilkins on 42 was headed on by Hibbert but Ashton was first to it ahead of Mettam and that summed up the entire Lambs attempts on goal in the preceding 17 minutes.
Then, Hine netted his second on 44 following a simple threaded pass from Dean into his path of the edge of the box and a simple finish low into the far corner to make it 0-2.
Added time provided nothing to write home about other than a Chorley corner which Belshaw took before the whistle blew.

HT: Chorley 2    0 Tamworth

Tamworth got the game back underway and Ashton quickly got the ball from the boot forwards. the Lambs won a corner on 50 and it was perfectly placed onto the head of Hibbert but his header was clawed saved on the line by Ashton.
Dean made a nuisance of himself on 57 as both he and Smith tumbled over each other as he tried to bear down Belshaw’s goal, but play quickly switched to the other end and a corner was forced, which Thornton took.
The Lambs made two changes just short of the hour mark and it took a great reflex stop from Belshaw to deny Whitham's snap shot from 18 yards and keep it at 0-2.
Hine completed his hat-trick on 63 with a simple finish from 6 yards out when Dawney’s cross from the left was completely missed by Sampson’s head and it left the number seven with just Belshaw to beat (0-3, 63 mins)
Belshaw did well to get in the way of Dean’s effort after the striker battled through the back four and strick Winter made it four nil to Chorley when the Lambs defence were unable to stop the run of Dorney down the left and his low cross was forced home on 74 (0-4)
Dorney then bagged one for himself on 79 with a left footed strike from the left of the box after the Tamworth defence had failed to clear their lines and he found the required space to latch onto a decent through ball and lash it home from 8 yards (0-5).
Substitute Almond sent the ball past the far post on 89 from the left of the box and in the four minutes of added time fellow sub Burns added the sixth of the afternoon with a short range curled shot from 12 yards. (0-6)
