Gaffer earns a Sporting draw

FT: Mickleover Sports 1    1 Tamworth

12 July 2016Boss Andy Morrell got himself on the scoresheet once again to make it two in two in the first pre-season run outs as he looked at his squad for two thirds of the match and a number of youngsters and trialists through the second half.

Facing a side that featured former Lambs Ross Atkins in goal and John McGrath in midfield for Mickleover, The Lambs lined up with a 'starting nine' + two trialists - the left back having also started against Coleshill the other new face, number 11, put in a good shift down the right side of the pitch but the whole side found the home defence a difficult nut to crack.
Playing the ball on the floor for the most part Tamworth were bright and eager but it took 20 minutes for '11' to get a shot away, prodding the ball just wide when Atkins was left exposed.
Mills hit a right foot shot wide of the mark on 23 and towards the end of the half Taylor and Mills saw efforts go wide or saved.
Deeney took a knock midway through the half and had to be replaced by the Davies who tried to mix things up through the middle of the park, but the opening goal was left to the home side though when their nippy number 9 right footed into the bottom left corner from the right of the box (0-1, 44 mins)

HT: Mickleover Sports 1    0 Tamworth

A largely different Lambs side played the second half, with an mixture of new faces and trialists but there was no let up in the determination, however it was left to Morrell to show how it was done less than a minute after coming on, rifling home from 8 yards after good build up interplay set him up on 66. (1-1)

The Lambs second half keeper was almost a spectator but had to respond to a well placed header on 77 and a handful of half chances came The Lambs way as the final whistle drew nearer, including a last minute half volley that the Tamworth bench took great delight in watching Morrell take an air shot at (!).
