Flyde continue to enjoy Lancashire top spot

FT: Tamworth 0    3 AFC Fylde

07 October 2014Following the last minute equaliser to deny Andy Morrell’s side their first three point haul for nine games, The Lambs returned home to face Vanarama Conference North league leaders Fylde.
Paul Green returned to the side following suspension and took the captains armband while Shane Clarke also returned after seeing red in the same game but took a place on the bench while Dave Hibbert earnt a place in the starting line up after impressing at Guiseley on Saturday afternoon off the bench.
Fylde got the game underway attacking the unsegregated away end but much of the early play took place in the visitors half of the ground and Dave Hibbert needed a lengthy respite from the field of pay after attempting an acrobatic finish from a half chance in a crowded box on 5 and coming off second best.
Hibbert was unable to continue and Trainer replaced him on 9 meanwhile a low freekick from Lloyd forced Belshaw to push the ball away from danger.
On 13, Jackson was quick to close down keeper Hinchcliffe but the custodian cleared his lines as the striker bore down on him and screwed the ball away from the penalty box.
Belshaw prevented a close range low shot from Hughes going past him with a good block and his defence cleared the rebound on 16 and the corner was powerfully headed away from danger.
There was really little to report until the 24th minute when former Lamb Danny Lloyd smashed one in on the angle from the left of the box into the top right corner past the helpless reach of Belshaw (0-1, 24 mins) and then on 29 Barnes crossed for Lloyd but his well timed header from 6 yards went over the bar. Jackson almost connected with a sneaky ball into the box from the left wing on the half hour.
The pace of the visitors continued to cause The Lambs some problems and a well rehearsed corner by Fylde also got the ball behind the back line, as did a ball from barnes onto the head of Allen which Belshaw took well.
By comparison, Purdie looked for a lob from fully 35 yards and Hinchcliffe was happy enough to let it drop just over the bar on 35.
As the first half entered the final five minutes, Jackson forced a corner and the ball started to spend a little more time in the Fylde half than it previously had and inside added time at the end of the first Green rifled a powerful volley over the bar from 30 yards out before the whistle blew for the break.

HT: Tamworth 0    1 AFC Fylde

Tamworth restarted proceedings attacking the Meadow Street end of the ground. But on 53 Thomas prevented Hughes following up the loose ball when Belshaw parried Allen’s low left sided cross into the box.
The visitors doubled their advantage when Booth stole in unmarked to power home a far post header from Allen's right sided curling cross on 61 and made it look a bit too easy (0-2. 61 mins)
It was three to the visitors on 65 when Michael Barnes pounced on a bouncing ball in the area and exploited the hesitance of the Lambs defence to lift it high over Belshaw and head home under pressure from the covering centre backs. (0-3, 65 mins)
On 72 a foul on Lloyd set up Sumner with a freekick on the right and Lloyd met it with a sweet boot but his shot was deflected and the corner halted by a push in the area.
A couple of Fylde subs and a flurry of midfield activity ended on 83 with sub Blinkhorn feeding Lloyd with a ball to feet in the area which forced Belshaw to block the shot and Preston to clear with a hefty boot.
Taylor got a shot away from 30 yards and it forced Hinchcliffe to stretch to catch it above head height on 90 and Jackson followed up an effort in the right side of the box shortly after but couldn’t force a save from the keeper.
Jackson made space to fire a low strike at Hinchcliffe on 83 but the visitors were not too bothered by the late forward movement from The Lambs and took three points back to Lancashire to secure top spot.
