First victory over Harrier since August 2009

FT: Tamworth 2    1 Kidderminster Harriers

12 September 2017

After The 3-1 victory over Spennymoor Town Tamworth welcomed struggling Kidderminster Harriers to The EST Electrical Services at The Lamb but under no illusion that the game against John Eustace’s side would be an easy one.
Andy Morrell was looking for continued good form though hoping to extend the unbeaten run to five home games and five games on the bounce too.
He made one change to the side from Saturday with Luke Jones coming in for Matt Curley.

At a wet and windy Lamb Tamworth got the game underway attacking the Castle End in the first half and quickly won a corner on the right which was hooked over the bar.
McQuilkin tried a shot from the D on 6 and it took a deflection out for a corner on the right for Harriers which was booted away for Powell to chase.
Ngwatala fund space in the box to divert a deep ball into the area goalward but missed the target by a few inches.
At the other end on 12 Lambs pressure forced a mistake from Hall and the ball fell to Powell who tried a shot from 18 yards which the keeper parried behind for a corner.
More Lambs pressure set Reid with a sight on the target on 14 but it struck a defender and went out for a corner which was cleared back to Rowley.
A long range strike took yet another deflection and were forced to absorb Harrier pressure for a few minutes with Sonpue being booked in the middle of their spell of possession.
A foul on Longbottom set up the visitors with a freekick in the right channel which McQuilkin struck and Tamworth cleared, twice breaking forwards, and resulting in Powell being upended and Weeks being booked.
A right sided cross from Burns on 33 was met by the head of Reid but his header looped back to Hall and the keeper caught it under the bar and on 34 a cross from Morley on the left skipped past everyone and out for a goalkick.
Rowley was forced to parry a driven cross on 35 as the pace refused to relent.
Then on 40 the Lambs took the lead, a great ball through to Knights from Powell was superbly struck home from 18 yards to raise the roof on The Lamb (1-0, 40 mins)
One minute added time was shown at the end of the half and Harriers forced a corner which came to nothing and the whistle blew.

HT: Tamworth 1    0 Kidderminster Harriers

The second half was started by the visitors but it was Powell who earned the Lambs an early corner with a shot deflected off the knee of a defender which was headed behind for another and then Jones took the brunt of a high arm and required treatment in the box.
Powell his a low shot from 18 yards on 52 which Hall dropped to gather but from the ensuing play Powell’s next shot fell for Reid and he held strong to fire diagonally into the far left corner (2-0 53 mins)
Harriers made two changes on 56 / 57 and on 61 Horsfall was booked for a challenge from behind on Reid which sent the Lambs subs into the rain to warm up (or not!).
Reid was nearly but not actually booked for a similar challenge on Horsfall a few minutes later. A superb diagonal ball through the defence set Deeney free on the left of the box but his shot was blocked out for a corner.
Kidderminster exerted some pressure around the 70 minute mark which Tamowrth did well to defend strongly against.
At the other end Powell made a jinking run and forced a corner on the left which was headed on by Reid but taken by Hall at height.
Ironside pulled one back with a close range finish on 80 after Ngwatala’s shot is parried (2-1, 80 mins) and The Lambs quickly made a change bringing Taylor on.
A flowing move down the right and cross was too strong for Morley to receive in the box on 83.
Rowley made a superb save from Brown to deny the equaliser and Tamworth broke to the other end through MOM Powell but he perhaps should have squared it to Knights who looked better placed.
Three minutes added time was shown and ended with three points for The Lambs – the first win over Harriers since 2009.
