FA Cup 4th Qualifying Round
30 October 2004There were scenes of jubilation in the clubhouse as ball 56 came out to give the Lambs an away day trip to Blackpool in the first round of this season's FA Cup.
Two goals from Mark Cooper, wearing his old boots from last season for the first time this, gave the Lambs a half time lead.
The first came on 17 minutes after Matt Redmile knocked the ball out of the box from a corner giving Cooper the opportunity to fire home.
Cooper's second was one of his trademark freekicks from 25 yards that dipped and bent over the Burscough wall and flew in the top left hand corner (28 minutes).
Cooper was disappointed that his side did not finish the game in the first half and were given some nail biting minutes in the second period.
Tris Whitman had had a good opportunity to extend the Lambs lead on 55 minutes but saw his header cleared off the line while Ryan Bowen should have done better with a free shot in the Tamworth area 5 minutes later.
Tamworth were stunned on 73 when Paul Gedman ran onto a quickly taken free kick to blast home past the Lambs defence and a second yellow card for Matthew Parry saw the Linnets finish with 10 men but despite a renewed urgency by the visitors Tamworth held on to secure the money spinning tie in a fortnight's time.
