Cup victory gives Morrell first game win

FT: Tamworth 2    1 Rushall Olympic

27 September 2014With new boss Andy Morrell taking charge of his side for the first time and following a minutes silence for the late Lambs Legend Tommy Morrow, Tamworth got the FA Cup 2nd Round tie game underway, attacking the Castle End.
Visitors Rushall featured two ex-Lambs in their ranks with Cameron Belford in goal and striker Aaron Farrell leading the line up front.
Meanwhile Morrell handed a debut to on loan from Shrewsbury defender Donovan Smith. Despite a purposeful start from both sides and a number of well rehearsed corners coming the way for The Lambs their well practised set piece just failed to provide Trainer with a headed goal.
On 16 Rushall struck the bar via Carl Palmer’s right footed strike and it came back off the bar and bounced down and out for Rooney to try a header which Belshaw was able to gather. Belshaw then prevented Farrell as he advanced into the box from the left and shot low only to find The Lambs keeper’s feet in the way. But from the resultant corner Williams headed home from close range. (0-1, 21 mins)
On 37, Preston’s defensive header went the wrong way and it was only because James was in the way that the ball didn’t go past Belshaw amid cries of handball from the Olympic players.
But a minute later, The Lambs were back level thanks for Jackson’s close range finish from Trainer’s push through the back line which beat the offside trap and allowed Jackson to net his third of the season. (1-1, 38 mins)
Captain Duggan brought a good stop from Belshaw on 39 and two minutes added time was shown at the end of the first half.

HT: Tamworth 1    1 Rushall Olympic

Olympic restarted proceedings and Thompson was booked for a late challenge on 47 and pay continued much as it had in the first half with both sides trying to get through to the final third but no being very successful.
A freekick was conceded 25 yards out on 57 and Rushall’s Farrell forced Belshaw to tip the ball over the bar for a corner.
At the other end a blatant above head height handball by captain Duggan from a right sided corner meant a yellow card for his efforts and a penalty for Tamworth which Mettam stroked home into the bottom left corner to make it 2-1 on 63.
A freekick from Mettam was almost met by Preston at the far post on 68 shortly before being replaced by Hibbert. Jackson forced Belford into a save with a flashed shot a minute later and Hibbert was released down the left channel on 73 but his shot was blocked at the far post and then he attempted a scissor kick from a left sided corner but completely missed the ball.
On 76 Hibbert continued to be the centre of attention, but this time for the wrong reason, picking up a yellow card for challenge on the half way line.
The same player was pulled down by the corner and Daniels whipped the freekick into the box but Preston was unable to get his head onto the ball.
On 84, the visitors were given a freekick, much debated by those in the clubhouse corner of the ground, and although it was cleared, substitute Anagho-Ntamark drilled the ball diagonally across the box and it was only just missed by two in rushing Rushall players before going out of play.
