Cooper fumes after Exeter loss

FT: Tamworth 1    2 Exeter City

28 December 2004

Despite a strong, hard and well organised performance against The Grecians, Tamworth boss was left fuming over two disallowed goals and the visitors winner.

Bob Taylor seemed to have headed the Lambs equaliser with the frist move of the second half after Matt Redmile's flick on fell to the Lambs top goal scorer, but the flag proved his undoing and it was the same case after 73 minutes when Talyor knocked the ball down for Kyle Storer to fire home from close range.
Cooper - not happy with some of the day's decisions to say the least."Against a full time side we did extremely well and we feel let down. The ball was going in the net unchallenged when Bob headed home a yard off the line and I'm certain Kyle was behind the defenders when he scored.", Cooper said after the game.

Exeter took the lead in an hard fought first half through Kezie Ibe on 23 minutes. Les Afful's strike was stopped well by Ryan Price in the Lambs goal, but the ball ran loose and Ibe raced around the back of the Lambs defence to sneak the ball in at the far post.

Mark Turner forced Paul Jones to tip over his bar with a good effort on the half hour mark and Sekani Simpson let fly with a 25 yard drive that just whistled over but it was the last few minutes of the second that decided the game as far a goals was concerned.

Scott Stamps, back from injury, fed the ball into the area for Bob Taylor to muscle the ball in with 2 minutes to go only for Exeter sub Jake Edwards to fire the winner a minute later. Recieving the ball outside the Lambs area he span round Dave Robinson and fired past Price at his near post.
"I thought Robbo was fouled for their winner," said Cooper, "The first one was a poor goal to concede but they picked out pockets with the second. Looking at the league table we were 2 points ahead of Exeter a week ago and are now 8 points behind them. We lost a little of out momentum with the Burton game being postponed on Boxing Day."

Cooper's other worry is the injury sustained by Lee Colkin "He will have to go for an x-ray on his ankle. He slipped in a divot in the pitch coming down from a header, but thankfully Scott (Stamps) was fit enough for me to make a straight swap."
