Cooper accepts defeat with poor Lambs show
04 September 2004
Lambs boss Mark Cooper said of his side's performance: "We had a very disappointing day at the office. We were poor from start to finish, the mood was flat even before we got onto the field and you could sense something wasn't right. But maybe it's what we needed ahead of next Saturday's game against Barnet."
Marcus Ebdon pulled out of the starting 11 just over an hour before kick off, but the Lambs seemed to have got off to the perfect start with Ross netting on two minutes. However it was ruled out for offside.
Six minutes later a poor defensive header from Adie Smith caught Matt Redmile on the back foot and Lloyd Blackman nipped in to round Ryan Price and score.
The Lambs failed to produce a shot on target throughout the game but weren't helped by the 50 (fifty) fouls blown for by the ref that stopped the game flowing.
Just after the break a Lambs' corner was cleared and while the home side were running back Danny Allen-Page broke through only to shoot just wide and Tony Taggart hit the post with a header that should have gone in 10 minutes later.
Bob Taylor almost marked his Lambs' debut with a goal after 35 seconds of being on the pitch, steaming onto a ball down the left but his effort slid past the far post with the keeper beaten.
But on 77 minutes a Sasha Opinel free kick found its way past Price from 25 yards to kill any hopes of a late comeback.
"We were out fought and played too deep, but I haven't given the lads too much of a roasting - just warned them never to let it happen again!", said Cooper
