Back to winning ways

FT: Chasetown 0    1 Tamworth

28 July 2011

Marcus Law's Lambs enjoyed that winning feeling again at Chasetown, facing an Evo-Stick Premier side that numbered ex-Lamb Jimmy Turner, one-time Royal Dean Perrow and ex-Brewer Darren Stride in their ranks.

An early headed chance fell to Perrow before Tamworth got into their rythym, creating a number of openings.
Tialist Harry Milton fed Chrisite with a good through ball but the home keeper was quicker too it and on the quarter of an hour mark Habergham crossed for Christie who headed goalward but the chance was taken easily by the keeper again.
Thomas got into teh area and there were strong shouts for a penalty after he went shoulder to shoulder with Teesdale who appeared to push him to the ground, but the ref was having none of it.
Christie and Thomas enjoyed more good forward possession and juist before the break probably the best mopve of the game almost resulted ina goal for Milton, but his header after fine build up play between trialist Jason Beardsley and Shariff, went wide of the mark.

HT: Chasetown 0    0 Tamworth

Shortly after the restart, Liam McDonald netted a goal from the 'Jake Sheridan' school of goalscoring - with a cross come shot that curled into far corner of the net off the woodwork and gave the keeper no chance. (1-0, 47 mins)
Thomas struck the post afetr a good run into the box on 53, and Christie somehow cleared the bar from a few feet out following up the rebound.
Ten minutes later Christie set McDonald in on goal but he tried a shot when a square ball may have brought a goal and the same player set up Shariff to curl an effort wide, before Thomas then curled over and then Shariff curled wide from the other side of the box.
Former Tranmere keeper Joe Collister was replaced just before McDonald forced the home keeper to tip over an angled drive to win a corner with 15 to go. From the corner Chasetown broke quickly with 4 or 5 against 1 + the Sam Andrew in goal and thankfully for The Lambs the home side failed to hit the target from the chance.
As the game went on Andrew was called into action three or four times and was equal to each attempt in a confident final 15 minutes on the field.
