Avenue take the points deep into added time

FT: Tamworth 0    1 Bradford Park Avenue

05 August 2017After a thunder and lightning accompanied downpour of hail and heavy rain the cloud broke somewhat reveal blue skies to herald the start of the 201-18 season at the newly sponsored EST Electrical Services Tamworth stadium, at The Lamb.
Andy Morrell’s starting XI featured six of the eleven that started the last game of the previous campaign with new keeper Rowley from Shrewsbury Town making his debut with no pre-season appearances, among the new signings.
Bradford kicked off with The Lambs attacking the Meadow Street End but the first corner of the game fell to the visitors on the right and Upton headed it away strongly. Good interplay set up Styche on 6 but his shot on the angle was taken relatively easily by Drench in the visitor’s goal.
Drench would probably have been beaten by Upton’s effort from long range on 8 but it went wide of the left hand upright and on 11 Knights struck low from 18 yards forcing Drench to push it around the same post for a corner which came to nothing.
There were shouts for a penalty when the ball clearly popped up and struck the arm of an Avenue player in the box on 15 and Jones glanced his header wide from the corner.
Knights found Drench in his way when Styche set him up for a low shot from close range and partisan The Lamb crowd quickly realised the net didn’t bulge as they had hoped it would.
The ball was slipped through to Jones at the far post but he was offside when he struck it so the resulting goal from the deflection in off the opposite stick didn’t count on 34.
There was little to report as the time passed towards half time, although Bradford did force a couple of simple stops from Rowley with low tame shots.
One minute added time was shown at the end of the half and Boyes struck the base of the right hand post with a low drive before the whistle blew.

The Lambs restarted proceedings and forced a corner on 49 which was too long for Jones to get his head onto it.
Upton tried a right footed strike from the right channel on 52 but it curled wide of the mark and when the visitors advanced Lane was booked for a foul on their right wing.
Tamworth broke from the freekick and former Lamb Vidal slipped allow Styche to get a quick shot away but it was well wide of the mark.
Upton upended Johnson on the edge of the D on 58 and the freekick went high off the wall for a corner on the left which was eventually cleared.
Taylor made headway into the box and went down under a challenge but there was no penalty from the appeal which came from the fans in the main stand.
Taylor was then brought down on the edge of the area setting up Morley with a left footed dead ball but Taylor was unable to direct his header goalward after the ball initially hit the wall.
After a couple of bookings for the visitors The Lambs pushed forward and nearly got the ball in the net but Styche was inches away sliding in at the far post.
Three Lambs changes brought fresh legs onto the field for the final fifteen minutes of the game and four minutes added time were shown at the end of the half.
Avenue forced a corner on 92 and it caused a few problems before being cleared and an off the ball incident between Deeney and Spencer had to be dealt with by the referee after consultation with his assistant on the stand side.
And then in the 97th minute when the Lambs defence failed to clear the danger, Boyed rifled the ball home off the left hand post to give Bradford the lead (0-1, 90+7)
Tamworth forced a corner on 99 but it came to nothing and when the clock ticked to 100 the final whistle blew.
