All square at Rene Road
22 July 2011
Marcus Law fielded a mix of signed players, youth / academy and trialists at Boleshall Swifts' smart and tidy ground on Friday night.
On the back of a 7-0 demolition of Atherstone Darren Fulford's side were looking to continue the form against their closest rivals and alost took an early lead when Starkey twice set up chances.
After 12 minutes he put a low ball into the box from the right looking for Smith and from the resultant corner Perry flashed his header wide.
But Tamworth responded on 14 thanks in no small part to a great run and cross from Habergam which set up Liam Weemes to direct his header, unmarked, past a flat footed Acton. (1-0, 14 mins)
A nother run from Habergam kept up the pressure, while Luke Bottimer showed good signs for the Lambs out of midfield.
In between the Lamb psoession Smith caused problems for Joe Colister in the Tamworth goal and although Patterson put the ball into Acton's hands with a directed but looping hearer on 45, the home side equalised before the half time whistle when Starkey followed up Smith's shot from close range (1-1, 45 mins)
Chances in the second half were few and far between and although the rain had almost ceased, the wet pitch did not help matters.
It could be argued that it played a small part in a second yellow card and sedning off for Fulford shortly after the restart but the referee saw malice in his tackle on Habergham and sent him to the dresing rooms.
With 10 v 11 and the usual disruptions for substitutes chances became limited and the game finished all square.
