Alcock first half penalty save ensures goalless.point

FT: Kidderminster Harriers 0    0 Tamworth

01 December 2009

On a rain soaked evening at Aggborough, both sides took the field in their mid season point of the campaign after both suffering 1-0 reversals at the weekend.
Boss Gary Mills made no changes to the starting eleven that suffered defeat at Grays on Saturday, although Briscoe returned on the bench in the place of Des Lyttle. For Kidderminster, Danny Andrew, who enjoyed a spell on loan from Peterborough  earlier in the season started for the Harriers.

Tamworth kicked off proceedings, but Kidderminster went on the attack, only to concede at freekick on the half way line.
The Lambs retained possession and won a  corner on 3 which Wylde met but was unable to divert goalwards and a goalkick was the outcome.
With 8 minutes gone there was little to choose between the who sides, although Tamworth won another corner which the Harriers defence coped with well enough.
Despite the same starting eleven, The Lambs formation took on a slightly different look with Brown forging a path down the middle / left and Wright out wide on the right.
On 13, MacKenzie drilled a low shot right footed past the left hand upright from a central position, after good work from Russell and Langdon in the first chance of the game.
And on 15 a foul 35 yards out gave Andrew a freekick which Wylde and then Brown booted clear of danger and when Wright's run and ball into the path of Pritchard fell short, Caines chested it down, allowing Pritchard to run in and try a shot but it cannoned off the defender and went out for a goal kick.
McDermott jinked around Wylde and found Wright's defensive header on 19 while Brown won a corner at the other end in the next move which came to nothing, but Tamworth continued to press but were unable to get the final shot away.
On 21 though, Sheridan received the ball on his chest, in the area, but could only lift it over the bar from 18 yards - the second best chance of the game!
Another Lambs corner came shortly after from a long throw and Brown plated it short to Pritchard but the former wasted the cross with an off target ball way out of play far past the far post.
Tamworth had the ball in the net on 25, but Wright's finish was denied by the offside flag against Brown after Langdon had charged down Riley's attempted clearance
Just past the half hour mark, and Russell hit a hopeful effort on the volley, after Wright's headed flick on had only been half cleared, and when Sheridan fed Pritchard to play a one tow with Brown, the latter was unable to turn his shot at the near post into a goal, firing the chance just wide of the mark from 8 yards out.
Kidderminster then won a penalty, on 34, when Langdon was adjudged to have brought down Charles in the right side of the box and allowing Alcock to save captain McPhee's spot kick for a corner and from the flag kick, the ball bounced around and Spencer headed the ball over the bar from a yard out.
Harriers won a corner which caused some havoc in the area on 38 and although Tamworth cleared, the home side regained possession until Wright put a telling tackle in and a goal kick was the only outcome.
Wright's ball into the box on 41 was met by a tame header from Smith which failed to trouble Coleman.
Charles did well to cut the ball back into the area on 44 but Smith was on hand to put it out for a corner and when the flag kick came in, it was hastily cleared by Russell, under pressure as one minute added time was shown.
The Lambs won a freekick in added time 25 yards out in a central position and MacKenzie lined up for a right footed strike which was on target but perhaps too easy for Coleman to gather at his left hand post.

HT: Kidderminster Harriers 0    0 Tamworth

Harriers got the second half underway with Tamworth now attacking the away end, and on 49 two chances came The Lambs way - first Sheridan laid the ball back to Pritchard who saw his shot blocked and when the ball went back out wide to Brown he found Wright in the centre of area but he put his header over the bar.
Spencer made a surging run into the left of the box on 51 only to find Pritchard on hand to clear the ball away and a minute later Smikle crossed well but Tamworth cleared again as Charles missed his header.
Handball a third of the way inside the Kidderminster half allowed MacKenzie to put the freekick onto the head of Smith, but he was narrowly off target with his effort on 56 and on 59 Wright did well to get a cross in from the right, but it was headed away from Brown at the last minute.
Tait won a corner after stealing the ball on the right on 65 and Brown's kick to Wylde made Coleman fumble the flag kick for another corner which was wasted.
harrier sub received the ball in the middle about 30 yards out on 66 and unleashed a powerful drive at goal but it rose over the bar with Alcock tipping it over at full stretch for a corner.
At the other end Sheridan cut inside his marker outside the area to hit a low shot at Coleman which he dropped to smother on 68.
Knights made Alcock protect his goal with another shot on target on 70 which saw the Lambs keeper drop to his right to gather as ex-Harriers man Christie replaced Wright and Tamworth reshaped a little.
A long throw from Langdon on the right was cleared after a flicked header down from Wylde and when the ball came back in a corner was won , on 75 but it was cleared only for another to be conceded by the home defence on 76.
Pritchard crossed but it was headed behind for a flagkick on the other side which Wylde headed wide as the game entered the final 10 minutes.
There were shouts for handball against Wylde when Spencer's cross came in but the referee was having none of it and Kidderminster pressed some more  before Tamworth countered but were unable to test Coleman.
A poor finish from Charles eight yards out on the right of the area on 81 failed to test Alcock but still the home side pushed on and Alcock caught a close range header from Smikle following a good left wing cross.
Brown flashed a shot over the away stand from distance on 85, and on 87 Spencer put the ball across the face of goal from the right of the box, but there was no one there to put the half chance away.
As the 90 minutes drew to a close Brown hit a low shot just wide of the right hand post from 20 yards and Harriers made their final substitution as four minutes added time were shown.
Briscoe replaced MacKenzie with 90 seconds left as Kidderminster took a long throw on the left which Alcock carried over his line for a corner and it was headed behind for another on the opposite side, which this time Spencer headed over the bar.
In a last ditch attempt to get three points from the game, Pritchard's throw in deflected off a defender for a right sided corner and it was headed away as the final whistle blew on a point a piece.
