3Cs does it as Lambs sink Turbines

FT: Tamworth 3    1 Peterborough Sports

17 August 2019

After Tuesday night’s defeat to newly promoted Bromsgrove, Tamworth welcomed another promoted club in Peterborough Sports to The Lamb. Before the first ever meeting between The Lambs and The Turbines, the Lambs management brought in four new players into the squad but only one featured in the squad for the match.

Prior to kick off a minute’s silence was in memory of Southern League / FA representative Adrian Titcombe and local referee Richard Burgess.
Sports got the match underway attacking the Castle End in the first half and a ball into the visitors box was blocked before the in rushing Tamworth players could get a shot away.
Waite was brought down on the right corner of the box on 5 and Beswick’s freekick went straight back to the keeper.
The Lambs took the lead on 9 through Clement who cut in from the right, beat his covering defender and slotted his shot inside the far post (1-0, 9 mins)
Creaney then doubled the lead on 15 after tricky and unselfish play from Hoenes in the box to set him up with an easy finish from 12 yards. (2-0, 15 mins)
Tamworth pressed for a third before the half hour mark and came close-ish when Clement forced his way through from the left and the ball rebounded out to Beswick but he dragged his shot wide of the mark.
With a sublime piece of individual skill, Clement made mincemeat of the visiting defence on 29 beating three or four defenders in the box before rolling the ball home past Moat to make it 3-0.
In a rare piece of threatening play by the visitors, at the other end, Jones forced Singh to push his header onto the bar on 32. Lawlor picked up a booking upending Clement in the centre circle on 37.
A quick move out of midfield and 1-2 between Hoenes and Waite set the latter free on 42 ad he was unable to get the ball through to Creaney but forced a corner on the left, which came to nothing.
A powerful shot from Waite from 18 yards forced Moat to double catch the ball in added time shortly before the whistle sent the teams into the dressing room.

Tamworth got the game back underway and immediately Waite was pulled down 25 yards out in the right channel. Beswick lined up the freekick but planted it straight into the hands of Moat.
A poor backpass by Semble-Ferris gave Waite the chance of getting the ball into the box but he was tripped by Jones and the penalty was taken by Hoenes on 48.
He struck it low saved by Moat and the follow up was also blocked, and also the shot from Clement from the edge of the box.
Creaney’s cross from the left forced a corner on 55 but it came to nothing although The Lambs kept pressing and forced another on 57 which Beswick struck from by the clubhouse.
Waite picked up the ball in the right channel and struck powerfully at Moat on 59 and the keeper protected his goal with both hands at head height.
A Turbine freekick on the right was headed over the bar by the visitors on 62 and The Lambs made their first change shortly afterwards, as Wilder replaced Frances and then after Singh received treatment for cramp Fry was replaced by Howes.
Clement brought down for a penalty on 78 and dusted himself off and struck for goal from the spot but Moat pulled off a good save low to his right to keep the scoreline the same.
But his opposite number Singh was unable to do likewise when Toseland struck a freekick from 25 yards and despite his best efforts he couldn’t keep it out.
A threaded ball to Stevenson on 89 saw the Peterborough man through and he beat Singh with a diagonal shot that rolled past the far post.
Creaney nearly finished an audacious back heel from Waite at the far post in added time but could only find the side netting and the final whistle blew on three points for The Lambs
