10 men Lambs fall to spot kick

FT: Tamworth 0    0 Gateshead

21 September 2013

Following the midweek defeat to Kidderminster, Dale Belford made two changes when Gateshead visited The Lambs under the managership of new boss Gary Mills, returning to The Lamb for the first time since he came with York City a few years previously.
Jordan Rose and Duane Courtney were left out of the starting eleven, the latter taking a place on the bench, while Jack Evans and Lloyd Kerry started in their places.
Gateshead kicked off proceedings attacking the Castle End of the ground.
The early exchanges were not pretty as both sides looked to get some hold on the game and passing was of a premium.
Belford was forced to smother a loose ball in his box and a Lambs corner was halted when the referee spotted an infringement on 8.
There were e shouts  for handball around the 12 minute mark but there ref was having none of it as Lelan escaped falling on the ball.
On 19 Elford-Alliyu fed Wright down the right wing and his ball fell nicely for Lloyd, but he was unable to finish the chance from 8 yards out and only just put the ball over the bar with a right footed effort.
There was a penalty on 23 when after Richards-Everton had been unable to get the ball out of his feet, and Thomas brought down Larkin, earning himself a booking. Larkin dusted himself down and sent Belford the wrong way to score right footed into the right of the now open goal (0-1, 23 mins)
On 29 Elford-Aliyu made space down the left and cut it back for Peniket who tried a right footed finish from 6 yards but it was well saved by keeper Bartlett for a corner and Thomas was unable to make his header count as the referee spotted an infringement from the flag kick.
Peniket and Elford-Alliyu combined again on 38 with the former having the chance for a shot at goal which he took from the left of the area, but there was not enough on his dipping strike to trouble Bartlett too much.
Two minutes added time was shown at the end of the first half and despite a push forwards from The Lambs which saw Peniket go very close and Bartlett forced to push the ball off the line, the scoreline remained 1-0 to the visitors.

HT: Tamworth 0    1 Gateshead

The Lambs got the second half underway as the glorious sunshine continued to pour down
A corner was won on 48 and the Gateshead goal came under pressure from all angles but with 10 men in the box the visitors cleared the ball away and on 51 won a flag kick of their own on the right which Belford punched clear.
Tamworth built again and pushed themselves into the final third but despite the best efforts of Lloyd and Peniket the visiting defence threw everything in the way to block their shots.
Lloyd and Elford-Allyu almost forged an equaliser on 56 but the latter was unable to get any control on his final touch under heavy pressure from the Gateshead defender.
Baker resorted to a long range effort on 59 and the ground watched in hope as it flew a foot or two wide of the left hand post, earning the strike a round of applause, but still the scoreline remained 0-1.
A long throw from Capaldi on the right of the field was flicked on by Richards-Everton on 66 but taken by Bartlett and Evans found himself in the left of the box a minute later but the keeper was equal to his low strike as well.
Peniket found Wright in the area on 67 but the Gateshead defence denied him, as they did Peniket's similar chance on 69.
A corner was forthcoming on 71 and the pressure was tireless from The Lambs but time and time again the visitors headed or booted the ball away from danger.
Hugill received the ball in the box on 73 and turned a shot towards goal forcing Belford into a low save to his left, conceding a corner but it came to nothing and Belford brought on Todd for Wright.
Richards-Everton was red carded for pulling Hugill back as he ran through on goal on 75 to leave his side a man short for the rest of the game, and on 80 Evans picked up a yellow for a debated foul on the Gateshead left wing.
Byfield replaced Elford-Alliyu on 81 and Woolery came on for Lloyd five minutes later.
As xminutes added time was shown, Curtis picked up a ‘needless' yellow card, five minutes added time was shown.
Lelan followed his teammate into the book as The Lambs tried to get the ball into the box but play quickly switched the other way and Foster was felled midway into the Lambs half setting up Magnay to win a corner on the left which was squashed, but a similar foul by Evans on Turnbull gave Gateshead time to play keep ball and the clock ran down on proceedings with The Lambs pushing forwards but unable to snatch a point at the death.
